I got the Note 8 after hubby bagged me to change from my Iphone 7 plus.. WOW worse choice I ever made. I have had nothing but problems since I got this phone. We got it from a Corp. At&T store put it in a Otter Box before I even walked out the door. About a month ago my phone started to over heat popped up with a message saying it was overheating and all apps would be closed. I took the case off to help it cool down and the back of the phone was cracked. I had never dropped it at all. You can tell the crack is from overheating. Been trying to get something resolved about this called at&t and Samsung and either one want to help... This is by far the worse phone I have never had. My free phone that I had from metro pcs years ago worked better then this phone. It's really sad because I had a note 5 and I loved that phone. One of the other reason I figured I would try the Note 8... not only have I had issues with it overheating but, I have also had issues with service. The same provider on the same plan and I have no service while they have a Samsung 8 active and they have 4 bars, the video has no auto focus off or on so you can't turn it off (being a storm chaser I kind of need that) who makes a $900.00 phone and not have a off for auto focus?? I could keep going but I think yall get the hint... Don't buy this phone. Never again.... This phone seriously needs to be on recall.

P.S. Samsung PLEASE RECALL THIS PHONE!!!!!!

Welcome to Android Central! I moved this from the Note 8.0 forum (which is for the old 8" version of the Galaxy Note tablet) to the Note8 forum (for the phone).

Sorry to hear about this -- sounds very frustrating. Does the phone still overheat frequently? If so, it might help to show someone from AT&T or Samsung when it's happening, so that they can see the error messages and feel how hot it is. Otherwise, it can be hard to prove that cracked glass wasn't due to trauma.

Recalls are done when there is clearly a pattern of faults in a significant number of phones that can cause potential harm or property damage -- yours is the first I've read on this forum about that problem, so I suspect it's an isolated incident. This is one of the reasons why I usually opt for additional insurance for expensive flagship phones -- warranty only covers so much, so it's nice to have the peace of mind that insurance will cover anything else (and usually for longer than the one year warranty).

You got a lemon unfortunately, there are probably a few million people with a Note 8, few have had the issues your describing. No need to recall the entire product when millions enjoy theirs.

You can disable AF when recording a video on Samsung's camera app, unless they removed it on the Note 8 (I have a N5 and S7). Press and hold on the screen where you want to focus, it will lock to that and a button appears on the bottom left of the screen to enable AF again.

Wish you the best of luck getting your phone replaced.

Sorry to hear your bad luck with the Note 8. This is definitely an isolated case so your issue would not warrant a recall of the device. Also, if you put the camera mode to Pro you'll see that will have your manual focus for both video and photos. All it takes is a quick Google search or a question here in the forums and you would've found your solution to that. I wish you luck with your future device.

Um, just because you have has a bad experience doesn't mean that the phone needs to be recalled. I have this phone on AT&T with full bar service and have had this phone since September in a variety of phone cases and I use this phone extensively every day with NO overheating issues or cracks whatsoever.

Sorry you had a lemon. Every phone manufacturer will have a few devices that have faults. It doesn't mean that they all are faulty. This is definitely not the same issue as Note 7.

Good luck to whatever you decide to use. The Note8 has been perfect for me in the months I've had it

The Note 8 is the coolest (temp) Android phone I have ever owned. My S4 and Note 4 would sometimes get warn. The Note 4 could be a nice pocket warmer at times. I have had zero heat issues with my Note 8.

I am sorry you are having issues, but they isolated and you need to have your phone fixed.

Yup right. Note 8 is a lousy phone and hundreds of us here and hundred thousands more around the world are pretending we have a great phone for the past 4 mths.

Recall the phone because you had a bad experience? What about the millions that are perfectly happy?

Clearly you had a terrible experience, and that's unfortunate, but it's been nothing but stellar for me.

I had an S7 overheat and die on day 3 with a heavy grade case on it.
A BlackBerry that had charging problems, until I changed cable and charger plug plus factory reset was also needed. Problem went away.

Sometimes even with a new phone it helps to do a factory reset AND a clean install. For both of above type issues.

Apple uses Intel modems but then throttles the other brand. What be like putting a govenor on so you wouldn't see the difference.

I had an iPhone 6S Plu yrs ago with some battery trouble. That led to buying that S7 problem phone. I later bought an Apple 6S+ again, and this time iOS 10 and battery were perfect.

I don't have any stories to tell about the Note 8.

Recall the phone simply because you got a bad one, um, NO, there are millions of happy note users, myself included. Every maufacturer has lemons in the batch, even Apple. Sorry you had a dud

Another good reason we need a lemon law for consumer electronics. Good luck.
I have a note 8 with att since launch with no issues at all.

I have 2 Note 8 and no problems with either of them, Note 8 is the coolest running phone I have ever had.
you must be able to send it in for warranty repair or replacement, I'm fairly sure that Samsung are not interested in just ONE note 8 going up in smoke

Sorry you're having such rotten luck with your phone. I've had my Note 8 since September, my wife gave up her iPhone 6s plus in October for her Note 8 and we both can't say enough about this device. Probably the best Android phone we've ever owned. I hope you're happy with whatever device you end up with. Peace

You got screwed. But my Note 8 is the coolest phone I've ever had... temperature wise.

Can you share photos of the crack on the phone back? How can you be sure that its from overheating? If you feel cheated, raise a warranty request with ATT/ Samsung and get it fixed. If that does not work, call your CC provider (if you paid with one), and ask about accidental damage protection, you may be surprised, it would be available without additional fees.

Just because one iphone started blowing up, did you ask Apple to recall the whole phone line?

TBH, if everyone that replied told me why my incident isn't a big deal because nobody else has had that problem, I wouldn't reply either.

They aren't going to recall millions of devices because a few have issues. You have warranty for a year. This isn't a note 8 issue. It's an issue with Your note 8. Most of our phones are fantastic.

But wait.... Is it the best phone you've ever owned? Or just best android phone?

I believe the note 8 is the best phone I've ever owned. Even though the note 2 and note 7 held a special place in my heart when they launched because they seemed so far ahead of all the competition. The note 8 isn't blatantly as far ahead of the competition but IMO it's still ahead.
