Never again overheating back cracked on Note 8

They aren't going to recall millions of devices because a few have issues. You have warranty for a year. This isn't a note 8 issue. It's an issue with Your note 8. Most of our phones are fantastic.
Exactly. There's a very simple formula they use to calculate if they should do a recall...

A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.

I contacted Samsung after a crack appeared on My wife's Gear Fit 2, we could not explain how it got there, it was so carefully looked after but Samsung obviously were not interested.

It's still going strong after 12 months and the crack is hardly noticeable but it's there nevertheless!

Although the OP's assertion that the phone should be recalled is without merit, her situation is entirely plausible -- the phone cracks due to excessive heat (likely due to a defect), but Samsung says they won't honor the warranty because they assume the crack is due to accidental damage, not due to defect. I've seen that situation before, and it can be frustrating. This is why I had suggested that if the phone is still overheating regularly, she should bring it directly to her carrier store or a Samsung rep and show that.

The member may not want to come back to this thread, given the doubts that have been raised by other members of the community (in posts that have since been removed by Mods). But I also don't think it's productive to assume the OP is trolling or lying.

OP mentioned poor reception. IME all Android phones overheat when trying to draw in a weak signal. Had it happen many times. I won't buy a phone with a glass back if I can avoid it but it is becoming harder to avoid. Plastic is so much better suited. Just silly especially since most users use cases.

Just wanted to comment if you have questions about moderator actions or have a suggestion shoot me a Private Message (PM) - not post in the thread about it.

Thanks :).

Not sure if I would under estimate the amount of energy/ heat possible from a li-ion battery.

I got the Note 8 after hubby bagged me to change from my Iphone 7 plus.. WOW worse choice I ever made. I have had nothing but problems since I got this phone. We got it from a Corp. At&T store put it in a Otter Box before I even walked out the door. About a month ago my phone started to over heat popped up with a message saying it was overheating and all apps would be closed. I took the case off to help it cool down and the back of the phone was cracked. I had never dropped it at all. You can tell the crack is from overheating. Been trying to get something resolved about this called at&t and Samsung and either one want to help... This is by far the worse phone I have never had. My free phone that I had from metro pcs years ago worked better then this phone. It's really sad because I had a note 5 and I loved that phone. One of the other reason I figured I would try the Note 8... not only have I had issues with it overheating but, I have also had issues with service. The same provider on the same plan and I have no service while they have a Samsung 8 active and they have 4 bars, the video has no auto focus off or on so you can't turn it off (being a storm chaser I kind of need that) who makes a $900.00 phone and not have a off for auto focus?? I could keep going but I think yall get the hint... Don't buy this phone. Never again.... This phone seriously needs to be on recall.

P.S. Samsung PLEASE RECALL THIS PHONE!!!!!!
Oh dear, you definitely got a lemon. Well done on the sales pitch too.

Did you used to be in the Motorola Support Forums?
