#neveragain boycott and lawsuit

i was considering purchasing an Epic from a fellow in the area (asking for a reasonable trade of items for the phone)--to keep as a second phone to use as a media device/phone for the cinematic quality when going on trips (for the screen and processor) and fall back on in the event of my Evo ever having an unfortunate accident--but after reading all of these complaints i'm a little more skeptical. it's a good looking/spec'ed phone, but i'm flabberghasted it hasn't been updated yet. if it had, or does, i'd be all over it.

edit: run-on sentence much? ha. sorry

I really don't understand the GPS issues people are having, would someone care to elaborate? I bought an epic for myself, my sister, my mom, my dad and my aunt... none of us have had issues at all. Moreover, I've sold hundreds of these phones at best buy mobile, and I've never heard a single complaint about GPS functionality.

I've been aware that there are reported issues(mostly from just reading the forums here and at xda), but I've never looked into what those issues actually are.

When you find your location... it is usually only accurate to 40 + feet. If it isn't accurate to 5 ft or less many are not satisfied. Especially people who are using software that needs a very accurate gps location such as apps that monitor cross country running or jogging apps. If you are just using the gps for driving 40 feet or so doesn't matter much.

My understanding (and my experience) is that it's actually software limited to 30m accuracy (which of course is closer to 90'). And yes, it's definitely problematic for, e.g., walking/running apps than for car navigation. In fact, I switched from SmartRunner (which I used on my Sprint Pre that performed flawlessly) to RunKeeper primarily because the latter would work with the 30m limit while the former demanded more accuracy.

I hate to keep mentioning rooting, but with a good ROM I get about 4 feet of accuracy with my GPS so at least we know it's not a hardware issue at this point.

I use golf course software and compare with a dedicated golf gps and it is usually with 1-2 YARDs of each other, even though I see the 30m error displayed on GMaps.

I hear what you're saying. I think some apps respond differently. Point is, though, it's not functional as-is for many people and needs to be fixed.
