New 16gb for free or spend $100 for custom 32gb?

I'd say drop the 100. I got a Galaxy Note 2 for 100 and spent a extra 40 for a 64 gb microsd. Sometimes its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I'd also say it's worth the $100, especially seeing as you'll also be able to customize your phone. There's no way for you to upgrade in the future unless you get a memory card reader such as this: Meenova.com, Welcome , or by using Cloud Storage.

But that's not as elegant a solution as having enough memory actually built in.

In the future, when you get / upgrade to your next phone, whether you sell it or give to someone else / family member, the extra space will be good to have.
