New 2XL, how do I "restore" text history?

Hello, so I just got my awesome new 2XL... Upon setup, I chose to restore data from Google drive, where I had backed up from my old Nexus 6P... Photos and call history transferred over, but my text history did not.
Any way I can transfer over text history?

If you still have the 6P. Install SMS Backup & Restore on it, back it up, copy the XML file to the Pixel 2, with SMS Backup & Restore on it, and restore.

(If you already have text history on the Pixel, you're going to have to look at an xml backup and figure it out. The first and last lines define the limits of the history. [The second line is a comment.] Take all the rest of the Nexus 6 file and insert it into the end of the Pixel file with the oldest text [I don't remember if it saves them oldest to newest or newest to oldest], save that, delete the text history from the Pixel, then restore from the combined file.)
