New beta Thumb Keyboard

Because the expiration date of the current beta will expire tomorrow and because I've postponed the final release with one or two weeks, I decided to publish a new beta.

New in this beta:
* Possibility to resize the width of the right and left keyblocks. Very convenient. You can now adjust the keyboard fully to the range of your thumbs.
* New themes.
* New regular qwerty keyboard, so one can also enjoy all the features on a standard keyboard layout.
* small bug fixes

In my opinion, this needs easier access to the apostrophe and dash let, sort of like the Android keyboard, the multi touch is very weird ( example: I type in XDA holding down shift and it only puts DA or something like that, are we not on the same page on what multi touch means?) Still thank god they added the option to have a full keyboard, loved that ability on the Tablet Keyboard on the market, now it's on a more customizeable keyboard. Still needs some fixing, I use correct grammar constantly on my Xoom, so I would like to be able to do it a lot faster.

Thanks for checking in and releasing this for us! You're the man. The new beta has been great and I no longer get "space bar frustration" like I used to.

Great keyboard, can't wait to load this one up.

As for the multi-touch, it should work like a charm . Keep in mind that forum editors don't work smoothly in the Honeycomb browsers. This may lead to some unpredictable typing errors. Try it in a regular editor on your Xoom and please report back when you still have this issue.

I like this edition much better. I would get ride of the arrow keys on the full version though and move the tab button to the upper left like it is o a regular keyboard. Or replace some of them with that fancy memory key.

This thing is great! It feels a bit faster than the previous beta. I like the city theme and adjustable height. I don't tap the notifications when going for the space bar anymore. Thanks!

Watch, I hold down shift and type down something like Android down, it won't work right, when I hold shift down it just acts as if it is holding down the A. No biggie it does need some improvements but it is actualy superior to the stock keyboard.

I just tried this on the Google search box and it worked fine. Did you try it in a browser?

Hmmm... I wonder if when I flashed the UA string fix for wifi it screwed something up, because ever since I flashed it my experience with the stock Android keyboard has been weird... I wonder if it screwed around with input or something I dunno let me check back at the thread in XDA.

I can confirm, if you used the UA string fix for the wifi Xoom, then this breaks or destroys the multi touch experience on input method, sucks I have to decide on the keyboard or browser. Keyboard for sure, thank you for sharing such a great keyboard.

1. Lose the extra shift (right side), move up the 'enter' key and slide the period and space bar all the way over. My biggest criticism is three keys with differently shaped arrows stacked on top of each other. Cognitive dissonance.

2. The menu that pops up under .com key should be under the thumb, not to the left of it. It's easier to slide back to the right than stretch to the left. Same for the shortcuts key.

3. Any way to extend the spacebar lower? I find I'm missing spaces a lot more for some reason. (mostly solved with taller spacebar row. Thanks.)

4. Option to have the enter key say enter rather than another arrow?

5. Enter key missing on Google Talk.

4. Could make that an option. Don't know if it's worthwhile. Trade off is that too many options will make the settings menu a challenge to browse through.

It would benefit tremendously from better word prediction. It let's me misspell too many words.

At minimum, the predictions should appear right above where you are typing so they are within eyeview. The Xoom size is bigger than the eye can see all at once.

Other than this one (major) issue, its a brilliant concept.

That is something I'm looking into. Have some great ideas about that.

The new version has bigram predictions. It will predict out of the box some words based on previous words by just typing one letter (normally one has to type two letters for a prediction) . Try for example to type "of" and then just one t. You get way more relevant predictions this way.

Also it learns word combinations. If you type the two words "thumb keyboard" a lot, it will predict keyboard right after you type "thumb" and a k

Other than that I'm doing a lot of investigations about what kind of suggestion display is best. The question is, how to keep the typing flow and have good feedback about the suggestions made without explicitly looking for it.

Please NO! A ten-key pad is laid exactly as thumb keyboard currently has it. Check the digits on your desktop's keyboard and any calculator. Only phones got it wrong somehow.

I find myself constantly switching between this and SwiftKey betas. What I like about SwiftKey? The tab keyboard layout and neon theme. I love the layout the most though. Also, number one on my list is their prediction algorithm. I like thumb for the highly customizable experience and the easy text editing via the arrows. . I would like more key sounds. I can get over that, though. A lot of the key placements are good though. The one thing I love and hate. With SwiftKey, the predictions are easily readable at the glance where I find with thumb is actually have to have more effort reading the suggestions, which ultimately impacts typing speed. Three is the number that humans can read without comprehension, if that makes sense. So maybe four would be the ideal place of suggestions. Also, gestures with thumb would, be awesome.

Mat be a dumb question, but... I use ThumbKey exclusively. I connect through an RDP to our office server. I get the predictions/suggestions, etc. when working locally, but when connected through to the server, I get none of the word suggestions/predictions. Do I have a setting turned off? Is it because I can't use it on the server? Otherwise, I love it and recommend it highly.
