new carrier phones and feature and samsung phones in 2023-24

Verizon must pay Samsung a pretty decent amount .
It may not have been called Find My Phone at the time, but it was the same functionality. And to be clear, Verizon no longer removes/blocks many of the built-in Samsung features. The only thing I can identify that they still remove is the ability to access diagnostic/other features using the phone keypad by entering various key sequences (i.e., ###*999*###. Note that this is not a valid key sequence.)

You can disagree:)

Carriers don't always get faster updates, and it was great back then Samsung messages had RCS , Google's message is way to go today and better RCS protocol we see if Samsung messages be around in the future which I think probably won't.

Yes carrier and unlock version are interchangeable when flashing, good thing for carrier version that want to go to unlock version with no carrier splash screen added apps , yes TMO version Unlock or carrier show 5G UC .

Fun facts;
Sprint back in the days was only carrier to show RCS with Samsung messages on unlock version.

Not always but usually by about 2 weeks. (Insert Total Recal gif here).

For RCS, both have their perks. Google Messages has a spam filter where Samsung doesnt. However the interface for Google has been destroyer by icons in the text bar (its basically a left handed app now), and more importantly, if the other end is in an iffy area messages WILL fail to send, SMS fallback has been broken for ages. Samsubg has yet to ever not send a message.

As for the carrier logos, that wasn't the case for the S22 U (S21U?) until a later update. Someone here told me they fixed it at back then.

The main "perk" is that you get rope-a-doped into a mid to high-priced plan for multiple years, in exchange for a not so "free" or discount subsidized device.

Carrier versions haven't received updates faster than unlocked MVNO mobile phones in my experience.

AT&T tends to be the slowest and breaks things the worst of major US carriers in recent times.
Paragraph 1, you're assuming it's financing. Not required to buy a phone.

P2. Subjective. Generally 2 week difference.

P3. Agree. ATT breaks things thr most, Verizon craps them up the most. TMo is pretty clean though.

What about Samsung cloud , thought I heard they blocked that at some point?

I used to go back and forth flashing the carrier version and unlock , the carrier version always had the boot up logo , TMO and Att sim if it has changed for S24 I have not heard and probably doubt it .

As for Google message I have no issues and can react to iPhone peeps which Samsung messages you cant and when default to SMS which it will between you and iPhone users no issues there also.

I used to be a fan of Samsung messages but that has changed with Google message.

Everyone experience will be different I've seen that in the Forums

Regarding preference, no doubt, I'm not trying to convert anyone. It's just my experience when people go in and out of coverage, Google Messages struggles in determing if the other end is RCS capable.

For example if someone was on RCS but fall back, GM still thinks they are RCS and will keep trying until it fails instead of falling back to SMS as well.
Samsung will however (despite using same JIBE servers) detect and resend as SMS.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses. I'd prefer to be on GM but right now SM had more pros.

Same with U1, I'd rather be on U1 but the benefits of U for me outweigh U1.

It sucks that Samsung (carriers) can't be consistent across variations.

Re: AT&T branded and their carrier bloatware.

What I find is that AT&T puts more bloat on the lower end devices than on the high end phone. They add stuff on all devices, but I never had a lot that I couldn't just ignore, or in some cases even outright delete.

When looking at devices on the AT&T site, they even list all the apps that are added for each device.

What AT&T has also done and still does is change the network settings so that you can't specifically set the mobile network type - like, for example, using only the 4G-LTE network and not 5G at all. Some people still want to do that. AT&T blocks that ability. AT&T recently forced Samsung to block the Samsung Network Selection app that used to get around that from working anymore. It used to work on my S20 FE. It does not work on the S24+, throwing up a warning message about why it doesn't work.

The update method has changed. AT&T used to show a generic update notice with little to no info, and forced a check only once every 24 hours. With my AT&T S24+, that's changed. The 3 updates it's received all had the fancy update notice with description everyone else always got that AT&T never had before, but now does. I also noticed that I can check for updates as often as I want.

I'm talking about now , Verizon is in its own world when it comes to Samsung looks like back then and even today.
Are you a Verizon customer? Up until the S24 Ultra, my last four Samsung devices were locked (S8+, Note 8, Note 10+, and S22 Ultra). The only real difference is you get the Verizon splash on start-up. I was not forced to use ANY Verizon app, and I could uninstall most of them. The ones I couldn't install, I ignored.

Verizon automatically SIM unlocks all of its devices after 60 days. Verizon has completely shuttered its CDMA network and all of its phones are international roaming capable. I know this, because I could use my Note 8 in Okinawa. It wasn't free, but I could use it.

AT&T and T-Mobile are worse when it comes to either a) adding crap, or b) not allowing you to use certain features. But of course people will ignore all of that because they provide a cheaper service. You get what you pay for though.

Probably didn't, because the Find My Phone Service was available on all Samsung devices and ALL of the carriers used it.

Btw, you could also turn it off if you wanted. In fact, Verizon required that you turn it off before wiping your phone to trade-in or replacement. The Find My Phone service was (and still is) tied to your Samsung account.

I was back in 2009 , do not like them as a company, yes majority you were able to uninstall or disable

Interesting 🤔

I'd prefer SM for the categories alone. However, with U1 (I'm on AT&T) I lose the RCS. confirming: with a carrier provisioned phone through AT&T, RCS is available on SM?

Yeah I remember Att version would limit how many times you could check for an update, glad that had changed, the network selection they should allow is to change that :(

Samsung Cloud is not available with Verizon phones. However, OneDrive and Google Drive are available; and the Gallery app can sync with OneDrive. I never used Samsung or Verizon Cloud. I've been a OneDrive user for 15 years.

Edit: I do use Samsung Cloud for phone backup and Samsung Notes. But I use OneNote and OneDrive as my primary note taking and cloud services.

Figured they would remove that , I use Samsung cloud and Google photos/drive back up , back up always done through PC Smart switch

Because of this convo, I checked my Verizon Cloud account and found that the only items in it were two contacts; which I deleted because they are in my Outlook contacts. Sooo... I guess I was using it...sorta. Lol

Never hurts to double check

That I can't say. TMobile has been very hands off when it comes to customizing OneUI. ATT is bad for other devices so I wouldn't be surprised if they stripped it.

Unfortunately unless someone else here knows the only way would be to flash U1, start from scratch and test but that's a lot of work for something that may or may not work.
