New G3 Owner - Questions

I just upgraded to the LG G3 from a Galaxy S3. I was wondering if there was a way to clear the ram like on the Galaxy s3. If you pressed the home button long, set up would pop up with a tab for Ram and you could clear it that way. Just wondering if the LG G3 had something similar other than their built in space cleaner? Or do I have to use Clean Master or another type of app to do that? Just wondering.


Also on the camera. Not sure if I have to play with the camera settings. I noticed for the most part that the pictures were sharp and clear. But if you zoom in it has almost a water color type affect. I know after reading that some people said to take the clear plastic off the camera. I can't get anything off, so I don't think there is one there. I've seen reviews where pictures are crisp and clear and don't have that water color affect like mine do. So not sure if there is a setting or if I have to download another camera app?? Pictures are still better than the s3 in terms of focus in low light situations. But wondering how to get rid of the water color affect in pictures.

Welcome to AC and the G3 forum.☺

The app cache you can easily clear in Settings, General, Smart Clean.

Regarding the camera....photos ought to look sharp and clear when not cropped. I'm not sure what you mean by watercolour effect unless you're comparing to the strongly saturated colours of Samsung AMOLED displays. Could you post what you consider to be an unsatisfactory photo as a screenshot to show us what you mean?

Hi,
by cleaning the ram you probably mean, cleaning all running apps from background.This is done by using first android button (virtual button) from the right (two squares).

Regarding the camera, i am not sure what do you mean. Samung AMOLED has much stronger colors (even to strong, not natural) but LG G3 camera is really great.

Welcome, and as a former S4 owner, maybe I can help.

The quick access to cleansing the RAM was quickly accessible by holding down the main toggle. The G3 can do the same thing, but you have to go into your settings. One nice feature is in addition to cleaning RAM, it will also suggest apps you may want to delete if it has been more than a month since they were used. Lastly, they say that the RAM can be cleared up once a month. I do it maybe twice a month, but 3GB RAM on the Android ecosystem should be managing quite well.

I'm also unclear about water colors you're observing. The G3 camera is among the best. There is an article floating around right now, G3 vs iPhone 6 Plus and the LG G3 won in the camera category which is impressive because Apple usually made phenomenal cameras. I'd also recommend playing with the settings as you'll find the settings are robust.

Good luck, enjoy your new phone, and if you are unsuccessful getting rid of the water color, maybe post a picture we can see and make further recommendations.

If you look at this picture you'll see that all the details are all blurred and run together almost like a water color painting



This one the center of his face is in focus but all around him is blurred and details are all smudged together.



But when the pictures are small enough you don't see it until you're looking at it at 100%.

It's difficult to tell from the photos but it could be a lack of depth-of-field as a result of shooting close up. If not then it may be a defective lens I suppose....for example, a lens element not properly centred, or slightly tilted. Also if you use the digital zoom function, there will be a noticeable softness at the higher zoom settings.
What are the results like when you are photographing rectilinear subjects at normal distances....buildings, say? Do you find that the definition is good over the whole of the picture area, or does it fall off badly at one edge?

It took me 5 minutes, but I noticed the cat in photo #1 (the one with the ears pointing to the right) where the top of his head appeared more blurry than runny, but as I looked left, I was able to "sort of" see what you're talking about.

I've read a couple of articles which rate the G3 camera highly BUT, can suffer in low light. The room the cats are in don't appear to be very bright. But in my opinion, that should be enough light.

The next time the sun is bright, take a picture. See if the camera selectively suffers based on light. Also, there are numerous inbedded camera features. A tweak might be the fix.

You know.. this is a topic that pops up from time to time.... and my answer is usually this: Don't bother. Android does a pretty good job of managing memory on its own. Oftentimes people equate RAM usage on a phone with a computer.... On a computer, if your RAM is crammed full o' stuff, things can bog down... on a phone, its slightly different since it doesn't multi-task anywhere near to the same level. Free memory is wasted memory.... Most apps are put into a paused state when they are in the background and do little other than just sit there in memory, waiting for you to access them again. And when the phone 'runs out' of memory, it'll just close out apps that have been gathering dust the longest... this is why when you switch between apps in Recents, some pop right back to where you were when you left them and others reload.

And apps that DO have background processes, like Gmail for instance... those have services that are independent of the actual application UI and those serices load automatically when the phone boots...so clearing the app does little to stop them from doing their thing in the background.

This pops up from time to time on custom ROMs when people request that a 'Clear All' button be added to the Recents panel where there isn't one. People thing that clearing out the RAM will speed things up, when in reality, it often works against you. A program loaded into memory doesn't have to get fully launched again.

I tell my wife this all the time since she religiously swipes away all the programs she's loaded. I leave them all in there and use Recents as a kind of quick app switcher since it, by default, has my recently used applications. I'll clear away apps from time to time, but only to organize things in the Recents panel.

hey guys.. i bought my lg g3 in the usa.. and now im in brazil for the next 2 months. my 3g won't work!!! how can i fix this problem!! i need the internet for my job please help

^^^What Brazilian carrier, and what version of phone? Perhaps the radio bands are wrong.

^^^I turned up the brightness of my phone to look at those pictures but have to say I can see nothing wrong with them....in fact to me, they look excellent.

I've found that if I use the digital zoom at or near its maximum setting, images are very soft....but then, that's exactly what you would expect. Even the mighty Lumia 1020 has its limits in that respect.

Here is a picture I took which really shows what I'm talking about. There is plenty of daylight so if it's a low light problem it shouldn't be happening.



I may have to see if exchanging it with a new g3 fixes the issue.

I see a sharply focussed and detailed feline portrait with, as you would expect, the much more distant background out of focus. I'm afraid I can see nothing wrong with the photo....in fact, to me, the quality looks high.
Possibly some softness of definition in the cat's fur in the outer regions of the picture, for example at the bottom? But that could be because those parts are in different planes of focus from the face, or because of some other optical limitation, rather than a fault.
If it were my photo I don't think I'd be anything other than pleased with it.

As I see nothing wrong with the pics posted, very slight blur on the Macro (up close) on the feline.

Hmmm are you perhaps trying hard to see a problem that isn't there and tricking your mind?

The laser autofocus is focusing on the cat. There are ways to get both the foreground and background in focus.. Try taking it from farther away for starters but this is more a photography issue.

Dunno you may want to play with the hdr settings it is probably on auto and that may affect things vs off.
