New gestures system & Android Q beta 3

I really like what I'm seeing with Q. Finally, a gesture system that makes sense. And more importantly, the options for users to pick their own preference. This is what Android is about: choice.

Also appreciate them finally bringing a native dark theme. The rest of Q looks pretty good, too.

Hopefully the hardware matches up when the Pixel 4 lands. Besides the necessary specs (RAM, dual cameras on the back), I'm really hoping for a new and better design language overall.
see now, I couldn't agree more! Thank you sir, not only is Google in beta 3 giving us choices, but the gesture is a complete sense,! Even going into the app draw for application is fast! Everything is much more fluid and intuitive! And I'm not sure about everyone else here, but I swear the battery life is a little bit more improved l...

Are you using the beta's dark mode? If so, your battery savings could probably be attributed to that.

Yeah I'm using dark mode, plus in developer settings I enable the override option for dark mode forcing in all third party applications.

So it's been a couple of days now that I've been using Android Q's beta 3 new gestures system the one that gets ride if the back button etc and I've already gotten used to it and find navigating so much easier. I love being able to swipe from either side to go back instead of having to press the back button. This gives me the freedom to swipe anywhere I want I stead of having to bring my finger to the bottom left and press the back button.

completely completely agree. I love the freedom to swipe all over the screen and the UI to navigate all around the interface.

I can't wait to get the new gestures. I agree with a lot here -- I love the way the back gesture is being implemented, how it's on both sides. With larger phones, this makes sense.

Indeed, I also love that home screen swipe up gesture. Some people are two critical Google saying that it feels too much like an iPhone in iOS but that's not necessarily a bad thing so to speak. I believe that the gestures are all fluid they're nice they are smooth and feel natural That's it.

Thanks for the hint to developer options. Now my calendar and Keep have dark mode.

I'm old school, I like the 3 button nav, but I'm sure they're going to remove that option in Q on the pixel 1 and 2's..... although they left the ability to switch in Pie, so I guess we won't know till everyone's running Q officially ;-)

actually, I'm not so sure that Google is going to remove the option for three but navigation or the second option. The the point of Android is to options and customization for users. From a muscle memory perspective my memory got used to the gestures. I don't even care at this point if they're like iOS! They're smooth they're intuitive and they're fluid.

I'm still getting used to gesture navigation but it works. I can do what I need to do.

I'm on beta 3 of Android Q and so far I'm liking the new gestures system for navigating. It took me a few hours to get used to. At first it was a little confusing but like anything else with practice it gets easier. Now that I sort of got used to it I'm enjoying it. It does feel very similar to iOS when it comes to gestures which is a good thing because apples gesture system is good.

Yeah from what I have seen it looks really really similar to iOS.

the only thing I see is get rid of that small bar at the bottom its useless.

Yeah true, as long as you know where to swipe for the gestures for a recent application that's not a big deal.
