New Google Music app.. thoughts?

I'm trying to like it a lot, especially because of the promotional price and the integration, but so far it hasn't been as great of an experience as spotify.

Ultimately it comes down to locally stored music. I'll select certain albums to be "downloaded to device" or click on the pin button and the songs will download. Even though the songs have finished downloading and are on my device, they will still skip or take a very long time to start, or even just stop playing multiple times throughout the song. I'll have to hit play to resume. It's almost like it's streaming or something, but it should be locally stored on my device.

I've never had that kind of problem with Spotify and if that kind of unreliability is consistent, I can't continue to use it as I use things like Spotify for live sound gigs and events and cannot have random stopping going on during those times.

Plus, it just sucks when you're using it personally.

I can't even get the app to work. This might just be a failed solution for Google.

I don't like it. I hate it that the album art is cropped and keeps scrolling back and forth. But the worst problem is that most of the time, the album art all streaked diagonally unless I turn the screen off, and then back on. What were they thinking?

Is this only an issue for a few of us? It's making me nauseous....the back and forth of the cropped album cover art work. This has to be a glitch.

I noticed it lags a lot on my Gnex as well

I like all the new features. I dont mind the new color scheme, however i did prefer the old layout to this one. Other then that I don't have any complaints.

I had this issue on my Google music app before they changed it to what it is now. All you should have to do is set it to see on device only when you are in your library. If you leave it on all music, it will still try and stream the stuff you have downloaded to the phone.

I have discovered that there are 2 GB's of music stored by the app, yet I have pinned nothing. I have tried clearing cache from within the app and from the app manager, yet when I go to On Device, everything I have played is showing up rather than only the songs I placed on the device via my computer when I originally set it up a year ago. Also, the app has used over 2 GB's of WiFi in the background since the update. :banghead:

Seriously considering uninstalling the update and canceling my free trial...

I hate everything about it. I just used it for a 7 hr drive and cussed the whole time..I hate that they made the whole gui smaller..I am 45 and having to read a 4"screen while driving (i know I should no better) is a real pain in the arse. and the album art could it be still? I hate that when I am looking at all my album images they seem to flicker, when i pan up or down..maybe my phone or to add effect? i do not know. I hate that the search area is so damn close to the notification area, while driving..it is bumpy on some roads, i would accidentally hit the notification area instead of the 'search' area. The same can be said for the Main menu area to the left, that includes the Listen now feature...wth?..my library and playlist, etc I hate the shop now area...if i wanted to shop for music I sure in hell would not be using GM, I would be surfing on Amazon...When I want to LISTEN to music I do NOT want to SHOP for music. Google used to be about users and now with eric schmidt they have become this evil money scheming empire but I like the whole adage if it aint broke do not fix it . sorry my heart stopped..
A simple gui with huge graphics and Three options My Library- Playlists--Instant Mixes and ...you choose from those and then it will take you deeper into your choices.
The ability to see the shuffle order of my music has now disappeared. When I shuffle now it shows me all my songs(alphabetically) above the NOW PLAYING Track on the bottom of screen but I have no idea what is coming up next like in the previous version.
In this day when phones are getting bigger, Google is going in a different direction and making their App GUI's smaller.

It seems Google pushed out an update today that resolved the crashes for me. Doesn't seem to be a change log on the app or anything but the date is 5/21. It is working fine on my HTC One though!

Why are people talking about a trial, I thought it was all free?

Anyway, I don't mind the cropped shifting artwork, but where has "choose on device music" gone?

I know I select an album and see if it is pinned, but that option was great for seeing when an entire album was pinned and not just a song from a playlist...

The regular player is free but the all access comes with a trial subscription and if signed up early it's $7.99 other than it's $9.99.

I quite like the Google Play Music app. The UI is pretty easy to navigate, the colours scheme isn't so great but I'll live with it. I only use the app to play ripped CDs (old school), the majority of which are imported from iTunes, and pin and unpin albums as and when. Just being very nit-picky, there are a few things I don't like about the app:
- A couple of times it has uploaded different versions of tracks, despite just wanting to import ripped CDs from iTunes. Why not just upload the files as they are?!
- The automatic Instant Mixes are irritating- I don't use this function, but I can't stop it churning these mixes out every day or two. It wouldn't be so bad, but it creates mixes including tracks in my library but not on my device, whereas I use it to listen to music on my phone while commuting and have streaming over 3G/4G disabled.
- I had to turn the automatic caching thing off as it was importing songs created from these instant mixes (that I don't use) when connected to WiFi clogging up the phone with tracks I didn't want to download (or "pin").

Overall, I quite like the app though, the equaliser is pretty decent and works as a music player. Perhaps they're trying to be too smart with extra functionality that some folk don't want if they're just listening to albums from start to finish?
