New HTC One (M8) or Galaxy S5 ?

BUT: where's this "crappy camera" lingo coming from? The S5 has a damn nice camera that runs circles around the M8's.
In the photos I've seen online, it's certainly not. I'm genuinely far more impressed by the M8 photos, in general. In fact, people are putting the S5 against previous Samsungs and it's not always coming out on top. People want to just believe what they read in reviews but in the real-world, it's turning out different.

Id say for me the M8 is the better all-around-device-

I prefer the whole m8 expierence over the s5. love the design of the phone the feel the look and have always went against the " trendy in thing to do "... which the s5 is. and the iphone was. zero lag with the m8....
love the front facing speakers...use these most of the day at work. also navigation and talking using the speaker is no longer a problem it's loud!! and the earpiece on phone calls is the best iv'e heard.
prefer sense to touch-wiz.
the camera while maybe not as good as the s5 in certain scenss i find that the software is better. more clean. more user friendly faster and has zoe. the shutter is instant.
love the fact that I can use the m8 in direct sun. my friends s5 is very hard to see.

both great phones.

Agreed, the S5 is definitely slower than the M8 - not just the UI, but as an overall experience. I've been seeing noticeable lag in all kinds of apps (Google+, Tapatalk, feedly etc).

Ok you misunderstood what I mean. What I mean is alot of people are complaining about Htc m8 camera being bad, which personally I find the camera not as bad as people making it sound. But I cannot stand a phone that the UI is very heavy like touchwiz. Never said S5 camera is crappy.

So I am willing to live with a supposedly bad camera compared to a phone that is not super responsive.

You should go check out some pics in the s5 photos and videos section. Some of them don't look very good at all, definitely not running circles around the m8.

Overall I think you can get very good quality pictures out of both phones, which only proves that more megapixels don't make the camera any more capable.

Think about it, HTC compromised with 4mp just like Samsung compromised with much smaller pixels

Someone in my family bought a S5. I have been using all weekend to take pictures for my son's soccer practice and birthday.... Picture are amazingly accurate, color are spot on. The effects are great. Great camera for a smartphone. The HTC is still a good looking one, but taking pictures with the s5 is a lot of fun and after seeing the results you will want to post and print many of the shots you took. This is a really hard decision for buyers, the HTC One will give decent pictures but it falls behind when comparing it to the competition.

Are you getting paid to slander the m8? This phone is obviously too much for you to handle, so go to the Sammy forum and chat with likeminded folks!

Now now there need for that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Both phones excel in their own areas.

LOL.
Some people...
The HTC One has everything the best phone should have... The camera still lacks, that's what so annoying. HTC could have gotten the best phone ever if they gave it a better camera than last year instead of the gimmicky second camera.
The HTC One is still my next, but that should have been there.

I'm a photographer and we have both phones at home, so I can compare directly. the M8 has a tiny advantage when it's very dark, in all other situations, the S5 scores massive wins.

Sorry, I misunderstood - and I completely share your point of view. I, too, prefer a fast phone over one that has a better camera. I'll more than likely return the S5 and get an M8 as well

If you're really into taking pictures and video then the S5 is much better. The S5 camera is so much better than the M8 's.

Got to agree some shocking examples there, but then it's early days for the S5 and I've certainly taken some shocking pictures with the M8 - I just choose not to share them ;)

I haven't seen the massive wins, quite to the contrary. It's all a matter of taste though so I'll respect your opinion.

Do you have both to compare under the same conditions?

No offense, but I'm just not taking your word for it because I've seen plenty of photos from both, with my own eyes. That's enough for me to establish an opinion. One person's experience isn't going to change the glaring issues I saw in the S5 pics or the complaints I've read. That's really all I have to say about it.

I doubt that would do any good - opinions have been formed and a man only sees what he wants to see.

Yes, and that works both ways. Your previous quote:
The S5 has a damn nice camera that runs circles around the M8's

As most owners of the M8 in this thread are continuously being hammered by how horrible the camera is, I thought it would be nice to see a comparison of the marathon camera on the S5.

I would love to see some equal comparisons that show no bias towards either device. It would be nice if someone could go though different modes in each phone and take equivalent pictures, WITHOUT BIAS. Truly test the strengths and weaknesses of the cameras
