All of sudden I have a new ICON "a, funny thing in the middle, r". It just started appearing. I find it annoying when Google, Android puts stuff on your phone with no explanation.

What is the A, looks like a Mic, R? on the status bar?

Notice the A something there in between R Left top Status Bar.

Just came from nowhere. Have no idea what it is.Pixel 7 AR.png

It is a small a, and a small r with a torch or microphone in the between the letters.

That's the All Recipes app!

So just to be clear, this is a 3rd party app. -- not Google throwing vague notification icons your way.

Look through your entire app list and see if that Allrecipes app is installed.

Thank you for finding that.

I can not find that app on my phone, nor would I ever install it. So how did it get there. That ICON also has disappeared.

Comments?

In case it's a notification sent by the AllRecipes website in Chrome, open Chrome, then tap Menu>Settings>Notifications, and scroll down to see if the AllRecipes site is listed there.

Yes, there is was, turned it off, how do those things get on the phone. How do you permanently remove them?????

I don't know what it's like on your phone but on my P8P I have to actively allow it. Android Central does that as well when I view an article using Chrome on my phone. I always disallow notification permissions when they pop up.

This kind of thing can happen without you being entirely aware of it while browsing. You may have gone to the site at some point (either on purpose or as a redirect from some other site), at which time it may have given you a dialog asking you if it's ok for the site to send you notifications. If you tapped "Yes", then it gets added to the Chrome settings (which then gets synced to your Google account and to any Chrome browser you use that's synced to your account). You can easily turn off the notification in the Chrome settings, but in order to remove it completely, I think you have to do the following:

1. Open the Chrome settings.
2. Go to Site Settings>Data Stored.
3. Find allrecipes.com and tap it.
4. Tap "Delete Data and Reset Permissions."
