New issue - always on display (AOD) is too bright

I've had the S8 for close to 3 months and it's been great. But recently I've been having an issue with the AOD. It's not dimming down, which is more annoying at night because it's pretty bright and I've got it sitting on a wireless charger next to my bed so I can't face it screen-down.

If I remember right, it would start with a color background, but would shortly turn to black and white and then dim a bit. And it would be very dim in a dark room. But now the AOD is brighter than the lockscreen at lowest brightness. Phone brightness is on Auto.
