New nexus 7 problem with hangouts video.

When I use hangouts for a video call it connects fine. The other person can see and hear me fine. I see the other person fine but all I hear is a very low/slow sound. Like when you play audio in slow motion. Any ideas how to fix this? The app works fine from my s5 phone.

Also, do I have to set up a dummy gmail account if I want to try connecting my two devices together for troubleshooting? I don't want to keep video calling my wife who is out of town just to troubleshoot my issue.

I uninstalled updates from hangouts app and then reinstalled the updates and the video chat worked perfectly tonight.
