New Note 3 coming from iPhone 4s

Had the iPhone 4s for a little over two years and just upgraded to the Note 3 three days ago.

I really liked my iPhone a lot and used it heavily for the two years it was in service without any problems at all.

I was doing a little research on the iPhone 5s, galaxsy s4, and the note 3 and I was really drawn to the technical aspects of the note 3 but was debating it because I really liked how smooth iOS was and didn't know if I wanted a DROID, but I made the switch.

I've had the phone for three days now and i really love it. There are just a couple things i don't like...

The major issue is my screen is already scratched. I've had the phone for three days using it normally (no case/screen protector) I haven't dropped it or anything just putting it in and out of my pocket and using it. I was kind blindsided by that and after some research I think the screen might have been in a bad batch of glass. I also heard there might be some bugs with the launch phones. If that's the case I'm understandable. I'm going to exchange it at the sprint store and hope I have better luck.

I don't like the "my magazine" app that starts when you press the home button on the home screen. I have yet to figure out if I'm able to disable it.

I don't like when I'm watching movies sideways I accidentally hit the back button and it stops the video

I don't like that the wifi button in the drop down screen automatically tries to turn on and connect to a network when I turn off wifi in the drop down screen.

All around I really like the phone and plan on keeping it for a long time. It's ridiculous the amount of things I can do on this phone and looks great. I guess there's just some getting used to...

I too came from an iPhone4S and it is a world of change.

My Magazine was a pain for me too. I ended up installing Nova Prime and can set my home button to what ever I like. In terms of customization I would recommend starting with a Launcher and tweaking the phone to how you like it. It has definitely taken my some time, but I think I have gotten most of it down.

For example, a few things I did after installing Nova Prime:

- Removed double click to bring up S-Voice and replaced with single click for Google Now.
- Added gestures to home screen (swipe down: notification pull down, double tap: turn off screen, two finger swipe down: open applications)
- Hid unused apps
- Downloaded Flatcons White Icon pack from the Play Store. Then changed each icon on my home screen to a Flatcon symbol.

Launchers, such as Nova, have a lot of power within them.

Then to take it a step further, I downloaded UCCW, Light Flow, and a few other customizable widgets to make my home screen how I like. I am still playing with texting apps and keyboards...

Basically, if you don't like something you can change it. It takes some time to learn coming from iOS, but it is nice to have.

Coming from iOS there is going to be an adjustment. There are some things that my iPhone did that I miss but there are a lot of things about my Note 3 that I love. Can't wait to try out all the features. I have had the phone for two days, but haven't had the time to see what this device really has to offer.

You have to disable smart WiFi in the WiFi menu. I had the same issue with my s4 not understanding why it kept turning on.

Android in general has a steep learning curve, but once you get to downloading themes and live wallpapers and different launchers, etc... sms apps, you will begin to appreciate the customization. The phone will never feel old, just install something different.

I hate this about my current HTC Titan WP as well. I always have to try to barely hold onto the frame so that I don't accidentally press the back button. I really wish there was a player that would disable the capacitive buttons until I press the home button. Then the capacitive buttons would be available. I think that simple tweak would be great and I would pay for a player that did that.

I'm not sure why the my magazine app starts when you press the home button. Mine only comes up if I swipe the screen from the bottom up. Maybe you can change that in the my magazine settings?

My friend switched from iPhone 4 to the note 3 when it came out on AT&T. His last android phone was the htc inspire and he hated that thing. He swore off android but changed his mind when he saw the note 3.

Yes, in the settings menu of My Magazine you change set if you want the Home key to launch it.

Same for me, 4s - Note 3. Generally I'm so impressed, its an incredible phone, the down side is the camera in low light, in real use it isn't anywhere near as good as my old 4s but you cant have everything..

When watching a Video from the Stock player, If you hit the power button once, it will lock the screen so you don't accidentally press anything.

- No auto BCC on the stock Gmail app. Might have to try another, is k9 the preferred? I only use Gmail accounts.

- Can't search for contacts in Google maps. Have to go into contacts first and find their address.

- Blocking mode is nothing compared to Do Not Disturb. I seem to still get notifications at night randomly.

- Siri in my every day usage is better than both Google Now and S Voice. I have over 3,000 contacts and it is a pain to say text John Doe as it seems to pull up multiple contacts. Siri seemed to know my favorites and I could apply nick names for hard to pronounce names.

- No way to change primary Gmail account for specific tasks? For example, I have my personal as primary but would like to set my work email as primary in regards to Nova Counter and others.

Lastly I am still trying to adapt to the size. My hands are fairly small and it is definitely an adjustment.

Perhaps I will get used to all these, but just wanted to voice the main differences that bother me.

Same story for me as well. Moved from iPhone 4s to Note3

Never used android before but loved the bigger screen which I have wanted for two years.

I agree with others. Basically if you don't like something you can fine a software or widget change to make it more appealing.

That's not how mine works. Where are your contacts stored? For example mine are pulled from Gmail.

I too came from iPhone and will never go back. Size isn't an issue for me but I can also palm a basketball. Anyone with smaller hands I can see having issues with the Note 3.

If you want BCC on gmail just hit the button on the bottom left and that brings up menu that allows you to pick it. If you want BCC there all the time, not sure why you would for every email, I'm not sure it supports that.

Blocking mode works perfectly for me. You need to define the times and leave it enabled all the time. Nothing has made it past since October 3.

I gotta disagree on the Siri comparison. I'm using google now hands free like I was never able to do with Siri and I haven't even trained it yet. From day one it just worked. Don't give up on it just yet.

Wow, glad to see so many former iPhone users loving the note 3 so much. It's definitely a huge leap, but it's nice to see people appreciating Android's strengths. Nothing is perfect, of course, but having options is the better choice, I think.

In my experience, that is the kind of thing that is very difficult to explain to a long time iOS user, the fact that an Android phone is so much more than what you get from the stock setup. People look at a galaxy phone review and, if they have only used iOS, they'll think what they see is what they get, and it's not like that at all.

Anyways, I digress, happy to see more happy Android users!
