New OTA impact thread - please report in

Based upon your claims, I think your device may have some deeper issues... You really might want to look into replacements options with Verizon Tech Support. If they want to do a warranty replacement, you will likely need to do a factory data reset. If the phone is that much of an inconvenience to you, you could ask the rep about the possibility of getting another device instead of the Thunderbolt, but that is entirely up to you.
I did talk to Tech Support and was told there is nothing they can do as I got this phone for being a member of the VCC and we usually get a few phones to try out. Thank you for the quick reply. I have done the factory reset about four times in the past three months.

But will the alternate CLNR be a complete phone? Usually, it is JUST the phone...no battery, battery cover, etc. And no wonder this is so difficult, every supervisor does his/her own thing.

If your problems are as bad as you say, you basically have a worthless device. You need to be on the phone with VZW and keep calling back until you get some type of action.

Since the OTA, my battery may be a little better, or at least the same. I have one odd reboot. Before the update I had maybe one reboot a week, usually when traveling. So the reboots are about the same for me. GPS locks much quicker, nice. GPS status does show the GPS data flicker off occasionally. Even when zoomed in on a map, this has no impact to the GPS. A working VZW data widget is nice. It appears that the entire phone now is not as smooth as it was. I need to root it and shut off some of the bloatware.

Let me say in advance, I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place. I have an Epic 4g, rooted, no mods or roms installed. Here's the thing I was checking for updates this morning and it said there was a software update from EF02 to EF10. So, I hit install, it rebooted and when I checked it still said EF02 in my about phone. Then it pops up "Update Software" again this time telling me to update from EF10 to EF02. My husband has the same phone and his is doing the same thing. Can anyone please tell me whats going on?

If they give you a completly different phone it comes with everything, if it is just a warrenty replacement it will be just the phone. If you got a different phone why would they sent you a phone with no accssories?????????

Because if they send a CLNR that is a different device (i.e. not the same type of phone I have), then the battery/cover, etc for my Thunderbolt would not work for something else, like a Charge or whatever. Generally, CLNR's do NOT include the battery and cover, you use the one you already have. Now if it was a new phone, then it's no worries, but a CLNR would be a concern. Plus, there's the whole thing of needing a different case, screen protector, spare battery, etc.

If they agree to your switching to new device, they should also agree to recompense you for the accessories you already bought for the old phone. You may have to negotiate this point and they may refer to the size of your bill and your payment history. There are no guarantees, 'though, I suppose. They have done this for me, but then they've also sent me a new model phone without a battery. When that happened, they also credited me a $50 for the extra hassles they caused.

I did not initially notice much of a change in battery life after the MR2 update; however, I am now getting really great battery life with the phone lasting all day even with pretty heavy usage including long calls on the speaker phone and hours of web browsing. I think the difference was shutting down the phone completely and pulling the battery, the SIM card, and the micro SD memory card for 10 or 15 minutes. Once I put everything back together and powered up my TBolt it started acting like a completely new phone with much better battery life and a more consistent 4G connection too. I'm loving it now! :)

If you make a good case to the right person, you could be able to get the accessories (battery+cover+charger) covered, although the phone and accessories will be in different boxes.

And the reason why there is so much variation with supervisors is because technically none of this is covered under any policy, nor is it in the warranty. Warranty provides that the same model will be the replacement. Alternate warranty replacements are just something nice for a customer that Tech Support can occasionally do in most cases, although in rare circumstances there is a policy for specific devices to have specific alternates for various reasons.

I just got the update today and my GPS is off about 2 miles & also lost my Wifi Hotspot. It states to call some number for service. That's all so far........

You need to be clear about what you are doing but I have heard of reps placing orders for CLNR's and then placing an order for the needed acessories (battery door, charger, and battery) with price adjustments to zero. It can happen but like Mortiel said you have to talk to the right person.

Right now Faceinate owners who are experiencing major issues after the Froyo update are bring offered CLN replacements for their choice of several newer devices. I am sure these are coming with all of the parts.

Well I'll be returning this CLNR to Verizon. It came with a battery cover, which does not even fit on properly. Same when I use the battery cover from my old Tbolt.

But the real kicker is, this phone will not power on. Okay, it did once, I entered my gmail info and was up and running. The phone began to download the latest update and suddenly rebooted (isn't that familiar). Once rebooting, the phone never went beyond the white HTC splash screen after 10 minutes. So, I pulled the battery and went in to HBoot to try to do a factory reset, which is also completely unresponsive, I cannot scroll to any of the other options in HBoot using the volume buttons.

This is going back and I am finished, I've been patient waiting for phantom updates that were allegedly going to fix problems with reboots, but the problem is still there in my experience. Verizon leaves me with little choice but to look in to other carriers.

Edit: Tech support offered to switch me over to a Charge, for which I would have had to pay the two year contract rate for. They also wouldn't comp the accessories I would have to buy again (extra battery, case, screen protector).

Ok. To update. Reboots have stopped as have sense crashes. Battery Life has improved slightly most of the time.

I finally got offered the update last night and I rejected it.

is it possible to keep declining it? I've never had a random reboot and I can deal with the battery issues.

will the update be forced at a later date?

Eventually it will get installed when you are sleeping or not paying attention.

wonderful.

I really have been lucky I guess as I've had no problems that others have had.

my only gripe with the TB is that we never got Skype.

Now that is reported to be in the next update! Gingerbread. :D

Yes, MR2 was pushed to my CLNR stock TB in middle of the night and I wasn't able to refuse it.

Went from a beautifully non-crashing TB to a three-times-a-week-rebooting TB.

Damn you, Verizon.

I assume you did a factory data reset already but have you done the SIM card removal for 30 secs?

Yessir, unfortunately it was no help. Weird, right?

At least my GPS locks on within 5-10s now, and there seems to be less lag switching between WiFi/1xRTT/3G/LTE.

my only gripe with the TB is that we never got Skype.

You are aware of the leaked version that supports video chat on the Thunderbolt, right? If you have not applied the latest OTA update, leaked Skype will still work on your phone.
