New phone & adding apps?

When you get a new phone... how do you add apps that you've used on your old phone? Do you use some kind of backup & restore procedure, or just load them up one by one from the Play Store?

Used Samsung smart switch to back up the OLD phone first ..
then restore it to new phone , so you have all the contacts and more ..
Do a app updates from play store ..
You're good to go .

I personally prefer to really start all over... Worth the hassle...

Surprisingly, my saleswoman used an app to transfer all these from my S7, and worked quite well:
- Contacts
- SMS
- ALL apps & passwords

This app also tried to transfer over the apps I had saved to my home screen and subsequent screen/pages, but not very successfully.

Try to add 300s contacts and all apps .. have fun..!
BTW..
Android is different from windows .. smart switch can do the job..
All you have to do is run updates for yr apps from store ..
You're good to go .

Nope, I start over fresh. Just like installing Windows, best to do a fresh install. Less issues; in my opinion.

Yes, it does take longer. But, also gives you the opportunity to change things a little...

I've seen enough problems with services like Smart Switch to not even bother. Your contacts will automatically sync when you log in your Google account (assuming you have them sync'd to your Google account in the first place). I don't need my text messages backed up, but I wouldn't be opposed to using an app for that if needed.

Most of the problems I see from things like Smart Switch are related to the app transfers. So I just make a list of the apps I want to keep and re-download/install them from scratch when I move to a new phone. In the rare case I have one that doesn't have its own built in cloud or SD card sync (such as saving a game's progress), I'll use something like Helium to back up and transfer. And while that carries a similar risk of issues as Smart Switch, it's relatively minor and isolated making any problems related to it easier to diagnose.
