New phone and Mic won't work

Well I just got a new s3 and the Mic doesn't work! No one can hear me on the phone and voice features won't register anything. Is this just a hardware issue and a failed Mic? Anyone have this problem before?

You wouldn't happen to have it connected to an external speaker or headphones with the aux port would you? If not, try a reset or return it for a new one. It could be a defective unit. If attached to a headset or speaker the mic doesn't work. I found this out when I had it plugged into my car's aux port.
