Hello.

I've got a new handset (Android Xiaomi Mi A2) and need to switch all of my data (photos, files, downloads, videos, SMS messages - basically everything) from the old one's internal memory and micro SD card to my new handset (which has no SD card compatability).

Google and Drive backups don't copy everything over and it's not clear how to then download these to the new phone. Searching for easy videos online of how to do this is not easy - generally they're all promo for third-party data-switching apps.

I've tried using MI Drop, Google accounts and Good Drive, but it's not straightforward and there's no easy way to both back info up and then restore to the new phone.

*sigh*

Can somebody help?

Welcome to Android Central! I believe the Drive backups are used when you first set up the phone and it asks you if you want to restore the phone from a previous Google backup. Were you offered that option?

You have to use the same Google account on the new phone as you did on the old phone.

Otherwise, you're correct, there's no straightforward way of doing it. Each file type and data type has to be copied over separately and in a different way (contacts don't copy like pictures, etc.)
