new phone, constant force closing?

my girlfriend just got this phone less than a week ago and everything she does ends up force closing. the phone is also very hot and its not on a charger or anything. any recommendations? should i factory reset it or just call up VZW and tell them whats going on and get a junk "certified like new" phone? help!!!

ok she just now tells me that her phone says invalid sim from time to time. im betting this is part of the problem.....
