I hope this is the right section to post this as I am new here but I am confused which phone to buy. I currently own Samsung Galaxy Ace S7500(Yes, I know it's very old). Since it's not getting the software update, I am about to buy a new phone. These are my options :-
-Samsung Galaxy Grand Quatro
-LG Nexus 4
-Samsung Galaxy Nexus
-iPhone 4/4s
-Micromax Canvas HD
-Samsung Galaxy S3

If not those, then please suggest me a new phone which is in that price range and better than the ones above.
Please suggest which one out of these should I buy and why.
Thank you.

Of the ones you listed, the N4 is the most advanced. If it's in your price range, get it.

I bounce around Android devices (Note 2, HTC One, Nexus 4), and went back to the N4 this morning. I missed it! It's fast, pure, and an absolute delight. I have no problem with HSPA in my area, can't really discern any lack of speed vs. LTE (AT&T, central NJ).

The Nexus 4 is better than the Galaxy nexus in every way except LTE. The only reason you should even consider it is if you are on Verizon (or another CDMA network) IMO.

Likewise, the only reason you should even consider the iPhone is if you love iOS or are trapped in their ecosystem through previous purchases. Otherwise get the Nexus 4. It is better in every way. Better than the iPhone 5 as well. This is especially true if english is not your native language...Android has FAR better support for non-English speakers than Apple products do.

I have no idea what the other two are. Which means they are probably less likely to get support than the Nexus 4, which is a core phone of the Android ecosystem. The nexus 4 is the one most likely to get upgrades in the future.

do you want to say this statement again after a year? "Since it's not getting the software update"

if NO buy the N4

Well, I don't care about those carriers like Verizon, etc since I am from India. You don't care about those things here. I already own 2 Apple products, but I would prefer going on with android.
And I also re-added the Galaxy S3 as it might fit my budget too. So Nexus 4 or Galaxy S3?

Verizon is a CDMA network. India is probably all GSM (most of the non-US world is). So I would say go with Nexus 4 for sure. The Galaxy Nexus has nothing that the Nexus 4 does not already have, and better. The Nexus 4 is basically an upgraded Galaxy Nexus.

The Nexus 4 will provide the closest experience to Apple in my opinion. It is fluid and fast in the same way Apple products are.

I would say Nexus 4 based on what you have posted.

True enough that most carriers in India are GSM (except Tata Docomo which uses CDMA everywhere and some GSM depending on region). However, not all GSM is the same. There are some uniband carriers in India utilizing only one frequency and some others with odd combination dualband setups.

@Armaan8134 - what carrier are you using? Getting the right radio is probably the most important factor.

<edit> Region would be helpful as well. India seems to be very region independent even within the same carrier as to the frequencies required...

I use Vodafone

Vodaphone seems to use the 900 MHz band everywhere for GSM (2G/EDGE) with some 1800 MHz supplementation. Where I see them listed for UMTS (3G) they favor 2100 MHz. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code#I

-Samsung Galaxy Grand Quatro
-LG Nexus 4
-Samsung Galaxy Nexus
-iPhone 4/4s
-Micromax Canvas HD
-Samsung Galaxy S3

Grand Quatro would work.
Nexus 4 is a go.
Galaxy Nexus is acceptable in I9250 or I9250M (I'd get the M and not pay for useless LTE).
iPhone 4/4S works.
Micromax Canvas HD appears to be tailor made for your needs radio wise.
Any of the S III variants (non-CDMA) would be a fit.

Now that the radio doesn't rule any out...

Screen size, resolution and pixel density leaves 4 choices:
Galaxy Nexus
Nexus 4
Canvas HD
Galaxy S3

Quad core processor then leaves 3 choices:
Nexus 4
Canvas HD
Galaxy S3 (but only the I9300 & I9305 variants)

H+ data speed cuts it down to 2 choices:
Nexus 4*
Galaxy S3 (but only the I9300 & I9305 variants)
*Note that the N4 has a better upload speed than either S III

2GB RAM cuts out one variant
Nexus 4
Galaxy S3 (I9305 only)

So either Nexus 4 or Galaxy S3 in the I9305 variant. Nexus 4 has a GPU which scores better in benchmarks. S3 - I9305 has a removable battery and expandable storage.

For my money I'd go Nexus 4 (LOL I already have) due to Pure Google and fastest updates. :D

Will the soon to come BBM on android come on the Nexus 4 too? I know that's a stupid question but still.
And what's radio? :s

BBM? Sure, It's an APP that should work on any Android if installed...

The radio I was referring to is the Cell Radio that communicates between the phone and cell towers. If you don't have the right frequency for your carrier you have no signal.

Oh Idk much about that stuff. So should I go for the Nexus 4 over the S3? And is Canvas HD a good phone too? There's like a 12.5k INR difference between the prices of Canvas HD and Nexus 4.

Great post. But what possessed you to put the galaxy nexus at the top for display? it basically has the same display as the S3. And I would argue that lack of pentile (as well as better brightness) puts the Nexus 4 ahead of it anyway. The Nexus 4 is a true 720p device...no pentile trickery. No screen door effect.

Nexus updates leaves a single victor:
Nexus 4.

There was no specific order.

Here's the side by side comparison between N4 and Canvas HD: LG Nexus 4 E960 vs. Micromax A116 Canvas HD - GSMArena.com

Micromax supports fewer frequencies for 2G and 3G so you might have roaming issues and find it harder to switch carriers if needed.
Nexus 4 has double the RAM and double the H+ data speed of the Canvas HD.
Nexus 4 supports one more WiFi protocol than Canvas does.
Much better quality/speed out of the Nexus 4's krait/adreno setup.
Nexus 4 runs a higher version of Jelly Bean and will get Nexus level upgrades to the OS.

Only you can decide how much such upgrades are worth to you...

Of all the phones listed only N4 and S3 are comparable and the S3 must be the I9305 variant to score as high as N4.
