New Pixel 3 Owner

I bought the Google Pixel 3 a couple of weeks ago and absolutely love it. I went from the Samsung Galaxy S8 (regular and active) phones to this. The Samsung phones were nice but the fact that I had issues with premature screen burn-in ended up driving me nuts! This phone is very nice and the fact that this phone is in the front of the line when it comes to updates is a big plus to me.

I can agree more with you! I couldn't wait to pay off my Galaxy s8 and get into my pure white pixel 3XL! Went back to my roots... I used to have a Nexus 6P stock Android is utterly perfect! The knot on the 3XL isn't that bad when you get used to it and the screen on the 3XL is way better than my Galaxy s8 screen was! Everything performs and looks better on the pixel 3XL! Android Q is a beast and the cameras amazing!

haha, did the exact same thing.
back in September 2017 i got the S8 because of contract & carrier change with about 100 EUR so i could not miss that chance (was using a 6P which started to have really bad battery).

was pleased by the smaller body and the OS was something new-ish (used to have a Note 3 some years back) but after some time I started to miss the full Google experience (used to have almost all Nexus phones, including the HTC G1 lol, except the Nexus 6 and the 5x)

but..I was not satisfied anymore with the S8 (nothing wrong with it actually but wasn't simple and good Google experience even if I was using Nova for the launcher).

oh man... the Pixel 3 XL is waaay waayy better than the S8 - from the screen, to fluidity, to how nice everything looks OS wise (use Nova launcher tho ), battery...and...have I told you about the screen? lol

the notch is not bad at all, compared to the screen size is much better in real life than in photos. yeah..could be smaller but... i don't mind it actually at all.

You're right of course and everything you said. The Galaxy phones are good phones for the average person. But for the techie/geeky people like us, they suck. Mostly because of lack of software updates. My older Galaxy s8 was still on Oreo 8.0 and I am now running Android Q beta which is 10.0! Yeah, everything about the phone is better, solid, faster and smoother and more fluid. There's simply just no comparison.

Another way for me to describe myself is I'm an Android purist... always have been and I always will be. Hoping my pixel 3xl me for quite a few many years...
