New pop-up rotation icon and how to remove

it shows up when keyboard is open and typing and I rotate. I accidentally hit it all the time and get lock in the wrong rotation mode.

Using new S9+, issue isn't keyboard (gboard) related as I uninstalled this. Turning on auto rotate removes the popup so i assume it's a system app.

This is Google design cannot be removed all pie devices have this , I find it handy incase you dont keep auto rotate on in quick panel

Yes all andriod pie phones , auto rotate has to be disabled in notifications toggle and slight tilt will bring it up .

Ha! Thanks for that, I think most of us didn't know about that Pie feature. It seems that depending on your device and your navigation bar settings the rotation icon will pop up in two different places:

- as a tiny icon on the navbar right where the switch keyboard icon is usually placed, or

- as a floating icon temporarily on top of other functions, like the return key in OP's screenshot.

Google put it in place of the Recents button (so you have to swipe up from the Home button for your recent apps), but different manufacturers have to play their little customization games.

It can be disabled. I just figured this out today....

1- Swipe down from the top of the screen to the quick menu.

2 - Click on the word portrait/auto-rotate below the icon and this opens up settings for auto rotate. Make sure you press the word below and not the icon....

3 - Turn off 'rotate button on navigation bar' option.

It has worked for me on my S8 it was driving me nuts too!
