Took the plunge and picked up a new S7 today from Version. Few questions:

1. My S6, after the Marshmallow update, had the April security patch. The S7 I picked up lists a February security patch with no available updates. Anyone get an April security patch on Verizon yet with the S7?

2. Zaggs glass screen protector didn't stay on the screen for very long. I use a case and it started to peel up pretty quickly. Anyone having any success with any glass screen protectors? I'm a little nervous not having anything on the phone right now as is it's often in my pocket with my keys.

3. The dreaded factory reset. I know it's coming at some point, and I'd like to prepare for it now, much like a category 5 hurricane before it hits. It took me about 5 hours to get the phone set up the way I want it. Downloading the apps....going thru each one to get the settings and notifications dialed in...organizing the home screens...etc. Is there a painless way to do a factory reset so that all of my apps, and all of their related settings, notifications, etc, can just be restored without me having to go through the whole process again? Backing up my contacts, photos, etc, is not the issue. Just looking for a way to expedite getting all of my apps and all of their settings back in place when the inevitable happens.

As always, thanks....

1. There is a known issue with the Galaxy S7 patch showing a February date even though it's more recent. You can check for the update manually by going to Settings > About Device > Download updates manually.

2. I never use cases or protective films/glass so I can't really help you here based on personal experience. MY recommendation would be to check an online retailer that has reputable reviews and purchase a screen protector with 4 stars or better.

3. If you use nova launcher (which is wicked fast and highly customizable) it has an option to back up all of your settings. Very convenient!

Hope this is helpful.

Not heard of that before. Have you got a link to that?

Needkeys, unfortunately, the Verizon and AT&T firmware updates are released by their respective carriers, direct to their customers. This is unlike all other models, whose firmware is updated via Samsung. Therefore, information and downloads are not available from the usual Samsung sources.

The latest release for the G930V model on the carrier branded minority variant for Verizon that I am showing, is G930VVRS2APB4. This indicates a February 2016 build and will obviously not include the April security patch.

Since it usually takes AT&T and Verizon around 8 weeks to modify and release a new build I do not anticipate, as per the S4, S5 and S6, regular updates in line with the Samsung released Global firmware releases. They are currently receiving the PD1 and PD3 updates for April 2016. The U.K. unbranded model is now on its 3rd firmware release since launch.

Sending you a PM about it because I originally saw it on another forum and not sure what the rules are regarding linking other forums here (I'm assuming its frowned upon).

EDIT: Looks like you can't receive PMs for some reason. Oh well.

The galaxy s7 doesn't have any good screen protectors out unless you get an otterbox or a life proof case.

Defender and Lifeproof cases are great and I have never had an issue with the screen protector but I do have have to clean it by taking the case apart. The upside is that there are no misalignment or air bubble issues. At the end of the day, it comes down to personal preference.

Would have to disagree with that. Am very pleased with the Zagg HD protectors (front and back) on my S7.

Disagree. Skinomi makes a wet application screen protector that is also case friendly. I did a review of it in the accessories forum. It's not a glass protector, but for now, probably the best protector out there that is case friendly (won't lift up on the edges in a case).

I'm using Gadgetshieldz Full body screen protector. I like using the S7 as it is, throwing a case and a tempered would definitely take away the original look of the phone. Most cases won't affect this screen protector. Great so FAR!!!
Even I've posted a short review about Gadgetshieldz screen protector on my S7.

Instead of making a new thread what do some of you using cases use/recommend? I don't care much for cases on my smartphone and haven't had one on my S7 the two weeks that I've owned it but I'd like to have one to keep in a drawer for days that I ride my bike or do something outdoors. I know the phone is dust and water resistant but I want to keep it from getting scratched during extra curricular activities.
