Hey guys, I got a new Samsung Galaxy S4 yesterday and I haven't done much but update some apps and text with it. I decided to try the camera on snapchat and noticed it was laggy but I figured it was just the app. Today I tried using the front facing cemera on it's own and it wasn't smooth at all, the lag was very noticeable. It can be compared to someone trying to play a really great looking game like Skyrim or Battlefield on a slow computer that simply can't keep up. As soon as I switched to the camera on the back of the phone, there is no more lag and it's as smooth as butter. I have the latest android version 4.2.2 and I haven't modified my phone except for the few apps that I've added such as clean master, adobe reader and that's about it.

Please help, I would hate to find out that I have to return a phone I just got and tell everyone that I'll be off the grid for a week or more :/

EDIT: Seems to be really lag free in the light.

Try to wipe cache of the camera app. Or a factory reset. If it doesnt help it can be a hardware problem.
Install a other camera app example line camera to check if the front camera is still laggy.

I tried doing this, I did a hard reset and that hasn't helped either. I did notice that removing the auto night detection off and anti shake helps a lot but the front facing camera still lags a bit. And on top of that my phone didn't sync to my google account and now I have to redownload all my apps and contacts :/

I did a whole factory reset and it hasn't changed anything. Disabling the automatic night detection option as long as enabling anti shake helped but the front camera still lags a lot compared to the camera on the back on the phone. And even worse none of my things synced on my gmail account so now I have to re add everything :/

Bring the phone back to the shop where you bought it.
