New SIM card for A9?

I got the new SIM card today and here is a screen shot of a phone call showing it using LTE.

Yay!! It's using VoLTE. Hmm... that weird. It's using at&t LTE branding labels. Unlocked phones will usually show Just H for HSPA and LTE for LTE. at&t Branded phones will show 4G for HSPA and 4G LTE for LTE data connections. I wonder why this unlocked phone has at&t branding baked in the firmware. Does it have the at&t globe on the back towards the bottom?

No AT&T branding. It came directly from HTC. Now it did copy over the My AT&T app from my other phone when I used the HTC transfer tool so I don't know if that did anything or if it also transferred any other AT&T settings. However, my Moto X PE is also the unlocked version that came directly from Motorola.

Still interesting that they use at&t branded data type indications. Wonder if they had to do that to get at&t to certify the phone for VoLTE. Wonder what the phone would do if it was setup with a tmo sim. Not asking you to but wonder if the phone would change the data types to generic indicators. Sorry just find it fascinating. Lol Props to htc to getting at&t to certify an unlocked phone. at&t sold the Nexus 6 sim locked and didn't certify it for VoLTE.

Carbon grey. Got the phone Monday, sim card last night. My partner had it all day. I know Wifi calling is enabled on it, where my nexus 6p doesn't work.

I didn't get a chance to look to see what icons showed when he makes a call. I'll look tomorrow since he's home in the morning. I did get to experience my first EVER HD call today. Even though sprint supposedly had it forever, I never ever had one. Lol.

Okay, it showed 4g LTE when he called me from here in the house. Neither his phone, nor mine showed HD on that call.

However, I did show HD the other day when he called me when he was a little closer to the center of town. So he's going to call me in a bit. And he's going to look to see if anything changes on his end.

Stay tuned...

And that was quick!

Be called me, it still showed 4G LTE and now I got HD on my phone and sounded a lot better. But his didn't show HD so I'm wondering if it's a HTC dialer display thing. I know he can make Wifi calls where I can't, as I'm on a nexus 6p.
