So it's official! I am now the owner of a new TB with Verizon. I've been with AT&T for the last 10 years or so, and I decided to make the move to Verizon before the unlimited data plan was gone forever. I'm an iPhone owner making the move to Android as well. So far I like the Droid OS a lot. It's a bit confusing at first, but only because it's new to me. Unlike a lot of people I don't have a fear of the new and unfamiliar! :p I had a few issues getting it activated as the 4G is down in my area. Stinks, but it is what it is. So far the apps I've downloaded are...

Amazon
Angry Birds (all free versions)
FB
Kindle
LTE On/Off
IMDB
Flixster
Google Music
Speed Test
Words with Friends

Are there any other "must have" apps for the TB that I'm not aware of? Thanks everyone!

Not sure if you know Amazon appstore offers a free app everyday. That's a must have for a lot of people.

I actually did, thanks! Is it just on the Amazon website, or is there a specific app for it in the Market? I couldn't find it when I looked for it in the Market.

Go here and on the right side is where you can enter you email address... they send you the download link via email for the Amazon App Store. Then you check that app out daily and it shows the new daily free app on the top. You can either download right away and install or save it for later.

Also another app that is free that just recently came out is Cut The Rope... a little addicting game and fun.

The download for that link can be found here... Download: Cut the Rope on Android - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

What I would do to make it easy is on a computer go to the droid-life link and download the APK file. Then email that APK file to your gmail account and open it on your TBolt. It should just say 'INSTALL' next to the attachment. Then you're good to go.

Otherwise apps that I like on my Tbolt are...

-Foursquare
-Flex T9 Keyboard (I'm addicted to using this keyboard, looks like an iPhone but works like SWYPE but better)
-Music (Google Music - having the ability to stream music versus storing it on the phone all the time is amazing - I guess you need to have a Google Music Beta invite though which you can apply for by going to http://music.google.com)
-GroupMe (Group texting app that I like)
-Plume (Twitter client)
-Google Voice

Those are a few of the apps I already reinstall if I flash a custom ROM.

Hope this helps! Oh... and welcome to the Tbolt! :)

It's not in the Market. You need to get it directly from Amazon. When you get it, your phone will prompt you with an alert. You need to set up your settings to accept Unknown Sources from your Application Settings to be able to get the store to work. I have read online that Amazon may be tracking users when they use their apps, so buyer beware.

Other apps you may want consider...

Taptu - RSS reader with Google Reader import & merging feed streams
Days Left Widget - Date Countdown. Great for event reminders
Folder Organizer - Folders for your phone with widgets.
File Manager - great for managing files on SD card.
Elixir - Great collection of customizable widgets for a variety of phone functions.
Multi-Icon - Allows up to 4 icons in the same space as one icon to free up space on your homescreen
Color Note - Note taker with different colors
Wapedia - Wikipedia app
Stitcher - online streaming of podcasts.
Go Weather Widget - gives detailed forecasts with good widget displays

Welcome to Android!

I just made the same switch for the same exact reason. I switched from the iPhone 4 on AT&T to the TB to get the unlimited 4G before it went away. I was getting really bored with iOS anyway so this is sort of a breath of fresh air.I was a pretty big Apple fanboy (still am with the Mac) but I was really disappointed with the lack of changes for iOS 5.

Congrats and welcome to the Thunderbolt forums. :)

These apps are awesome for your new shiny latest greatest phone.

Skype - Oops not available for the TBolt sorry.
Netflix - Oops not available for the TBolt sorry.
Hulu Plus - Oops not available for the TBolt sorry.
Google Talk with Video - Oops not available for the TBolt sorry.

Sorry, just a little rant.

Timeriffic is one of my favorite apps that I almost never use. Look it up and you'll see why.

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm going to definitely try out those apps you mentioned. I've been messing around with my TB for like 24 hours straight now, and oh the things I've found lol! I downloaded and installed the Amazon Free App one as well. I appreciate the help with that one because it was kinda tricky. Awesome stuff!

Thanks a ton! Looks like I have a busy day of downloading lol! :p

Exactly! I have a Macbook Pro, iPad, iPad 2 (don't ask lol), and had an iPhone 3GS. My work is strictly Mac only as well. I was very disappointed with the recent conference announcements to both the iOS and Mac OS platforms. The features that they announced were already on a Droid, so I thought to myself, "Why do I have this thing again?" Once I saw the features of Gingerbread, and the overall integration with Google, my mind was made up. Hopefully GB actually releases next week so I can really let this thing run!

Haha! Well hopefully that will all be fixed with the next update, right? :p
