Hi everyone! I just got the S3 Saturday. It's quite an adjustment coming from the Blackberry Storm 2. My first issue I have is I only get emails every 15 minutes. That's the lowest setting I can use. I called Samsung and they asked me what Baseband Version I have. I have I535VRLG1. According to the rep it's outdated and should be I535VRLG2. Is this true and if so how do I update it?

Is there anyway or app I can get that allows spellcheck to be on without having to use predictive text?

The phone isn't bad. I hope I can get used to it in 12 days!

Welcome to the forum and your S3. Set your settings on the predictive text to 4 or 5. This will make perform much better.

I did adjust the predictive text to 5 letters. I wasn't sure about some of the other settings such as "auto append" and "regional correction"

Does anyone else have issues getting their emails quicker than 15mins?

That's a limitation of the stock email app. Gmail through the main app and Exchange(activesync) are the only pushed based options. You can try a 3rd party app from the Play Store like K9 mail but constant polling will likely drain the battery. A better option may be to just forward the account to gmail or have the gmail account manually poll it.

I get my emails through the hotmail app and it is set to push. I get my emails instantly. That k9 and touchdown stuff don't work. The having emails go through Gmail is an ok work around but it pisses u off after while.

When I went from a BB Storm to the DROID I was highly frustrated n upset with the way that android handled email. This was back in 2010. Email on Android now works (at least for me) way better than it did then.

I dont use gmail( I use a 3rd party mail app) but the only way I am aware to get you email quicker then 15 minutes is by opening you email and tagging the "load up " or using menu button once in email app and select "check mail"

As far as the wifi pop up check out this thread post #6 has a link to orginal post as well as info to how to disable it on that thread too.

Edit added : If for some reason the dialer trick doesnt work to get rid of that popup box then go tho this thread
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...cks/190778-hack-remove-wifi-reminder.html#anb
and skip down to where it shows this :you dont have to be rooted to do the part below and there is a link to the "anycut "app posted in the OP of that thread.
If you have to use the app there ,in order to download it though you will have to go to settings>security>and make sure "unknown sources" has a check mark beside it
How to remove WIFI Popup Notification:
Open anycut.
Click 'new shortcut'
Click 'activity'
Click 'HiddenMenuWifiOffload'
use new home screen shortcut to turn it off

I have attached anycut since it was removed from the market.

For the first, there are two methods. The easiest and most effective way would be to just to go into your email provider and set it to forward all email to the gmail account. Any emails you reply to will then show your gmail account as the sender though. The other option is to open gmail in a web browser, go into Settings-Forwarding and POP/IMAP and enter your accounts there. Not sure if the phone will give you the option to reply from the actual email address or not. It's a little more work and from a quick google search, it may or may not allow you to receive email any faster depending on how frequently you get emails.

For the second part, you can disable it by entering *#6335623# in the dialer and then selecting disable. No root required.

Thanks for the wifi tip!!

If i forward my work email to my gmail with that effect it going to Outlook?

I set up my Gmail like this: in the settings area in GMail (on your PC), under Accounts and Imports, enter each of your email addresses and server info settings for Send Mail As: and Check Mail from other Accounts (POP3). Under the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab, enable POP download and When Messages are Accessed with POP, choose Keep GMail's copy in Inbox.

This way, your mail will be simultaneously delivered to GMail, Outlook and your phone, once you get all your email settings into your phone. As far as the delay goes, I just got my S3 a couple of days ago and am still trying to figure out that one too....hopefully an update will correct that "error" as it should be instant!

I know this is rather vague, but hope it helps a little :). It works great for me, after a couple weeks of extreme frustration coming from Blackberry (in 2011). I'll NEVER go back!

Not with accounts set up the way you have. Gmail polls the account similar to how BIS does yahoo, owa, and some others. What BIS did for those was say check every 15min or so and then if an email was found, it'd check every 3. Gmail apparently operates in a similar manner. The only surefire way for instant email would be to set the account up to forward directly to gmail rather than having gmail check it.

Maybe I missed it, but who is your email provider? If it's Gmail why not just use the Gmail app on the phone, email is pushed there as they come into your inbox.

I'm using the stock email apps on gmail and hotmail and both push emails instantly... It works just as good as my old BB Storm I had before my Droid X.

I'm having no luck with the email app. I only received 1 email today. I missed 9 emails. I downloaded K9 but that was no better. It pulled all my old emails but none of the new ones. I tried sending myself test emails and it didnt work. Everything still works find going to Outlook though.

I finally got K9 to work right. The only questions I have now are how can I get it to notify me on my home screen that I have an email and how to make the LED blink not just stay on?

The led will flash or stay lit depending on the type of notification you are getting. Also the color will vary depending on that too. There are third party apps that will alter this but from what I have read most require root access and don't work that reliably yet. You can change some of the led settings in notifications in the settings menu.
