New to android, question about tethering.

I am pretty new to the android os, but have been trying to get pdanet and easy tether to work on my home pc. I have gotten them both to work once each, but now nothing. I am really having trouble with getting my computer to even recognize when i plug my phone in via usb. Its like nothing happens! I feel like i must be overlooking something simple. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Just root and get the free wifi tether root app.
