New to Android

So I am a convert from iOS. Needless to say the last time I had used an android device was years ago off a Rooted Nook Color I had. Back then I found the potential in the OS itself but found it to be buggy beyond belief (I believe back then it was HoneyComb). Needless to say they go me on the v10 I am beyond impressed. After a few days I am loving the phone and what it delivers more and more. But is it normal for Facebook and all Amazon services to keep running in the background? I am using Doze to save the battery life but that was one small thing that had been bothering me.

I uninstalled the Facebook app a long time ago because they are generally terrible at coding apps compared to their website on Chrome.
That being said, there are two types of "running in the background" the kind that are barely noticeable and the battery drainers.
I've had problems with battery drain with the new Yahoo mail app and, in the past, the Outlook mail app. Outlook must have been patched since it doesn't do it anymore.

I have to say, it took a couple of weeks but my battery life is pretty good.

Now, I don't use the phone a lot. But early on, it did suck the power. My savior is Snapdragon BatteryGuru, from Qualcomm. It takes a couple of weeks to learn your activity pattern, and then it works well to help with battery life.

One thing it does is disable background activity for apps you don't use.

First off, uninstall anything you don't want that may have come preloaded or otherwise. If that doesn't work, (baked into the ROM) then go into Settings and Apps and select any you don't want to run and you can Disable them there. Just be careful not to disable any core service stuff, that may affect functions of the phone.

I disable all the carrier bloatware, for one. Services running in the background aren't a problem unless they are coded poorly; newer versions of Android handle background processes much better than the early versions.
