New (to me) T-Mobile S5 will not charge with my existing old cables.

I just bought a used Samsung Gaxlaxy S5 for my T-Mobile account. I have a charger from my old S3 and a number of cables. When I try to plug anything in but the USB 3.0 cable and the charger that came with the phone, it will not chage.

Is there a setting on the phone that must be changed to use the older cables? Or am I locked in to the USB3.0 Specific cables for the phone?

Any cable rated at around 2A should function fine. The thinner older cables that can only carry lesser current will not charge the phone or will charge extremely slow. You also need the wall adapter capable of output: 5.3V -- 2A.

I tried a Motorola charger and cable from a Droid Rzar. It worked!

Motorola cable and my car charger work. But I want to try the USB 3.0 cable with my car charger
