I'm thinking about rooting my nexus 4. I wanna change the onscreen buttons and maybe even flash a custom ROM. I've had it since launch so it has quite a bit of stuff on it. I know that unlocking the bootloader wipes the phone clean. I know carbon backup does not require root access but I've heard that titanium is better and does require root. My question is can I use carbon to back up my files before I root the phone and then use titanium after. Any help is appreciated. I have many other questions too but I'll ask later.

Backup with carbon, root, restore with carbon, back up with titanium and then you are good to go.

Either I'm stupid or something isn't installed right. So I installed carbon on my laptop. I have the app on my phone. I have the drivers installed on my computer but when I
try to start the app on my phone and sync it to my computer, nothing happens on the computer side of things.

try wugfresh 1.6.3 . work your way thru driver guide and if you look it will back up your phone . read a lot before you do anything , take your time and all should be well .

So I went ahead and rooted my phone using wugfresh 1.6.3. I haven't flashed any ROMs yet but if you'll notice that I did add pie controls. Next i wanna get rid of the onscreen buttons. But it was a lot easier than I expected and after some further exploration, I do plan on flashing a custom ROM at some point. Any suggestions on the best roms that anyone is currently using would be appreciated. Man I can't believe I didn't do this sooner. Definitely would've been easier when I first opened the box. I'll know next time.
