New to Samsung

I just purchased a Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and I do like it very much. The only issue I am having is trying to figure out how to transfer some apps to the SD card. The card is formated by the tab and mounted. I have an app to do the transfer and the option isn't even there to do it.

I am hoping I am missing something but I am thinking it's not an option. Please help if you can.

Thanks

I use "app 2 sd", which I believe is free in the market place. Last time I used it, it worked great. Hope this helps.

That is the app I have and when I go into it there is no button for move to sd card, only an uninstall button. No matter which app I try to move I get the same.

It's very annoying and if I can't resolve this issue I am taking it back.

OK, I'm curious as to why you even want to move apps to the SD card ... It's not necessary (you have 16GB or 32GB storage built-in) and I'm not even sure that Honeycomb supports running apps from the removable sdcard (I can't do it on my Asus Transformer running HC3.2 either). Yeah, I use app-2-sd on my Android phone (running Gingerbread), but it makes sense there due to less on-board storage and the difficult to access sdcard slot under the battery.

How many apps have you installed on your tab? I've added about 85 apps to my 16GB Galaxy Tab 7.0 and still have over 13GB left! Simply can't imagine having too many apps to even make a dent in the internal storage.

BTW I do use the removable sdcard for documents, music and videos.

In order to run apps from the SD card, the app, not the device, has to support it. If the move to SD card is not available for an app then the app creator turned that option off.

Most likely the apps that you can move to the SD card on phones may not work on Honeycomb devices either.

I agree, it is best to run apps from the internal storage and not a microSD card. Use your microSD card for data storage.

Thanks for you help. I did end up talking to Samsung and after trying many things he said "I guess you can't".

I just made a habit of doing that to save internal memory but I am hoping I will have enough for my needs. I kind of wished I had bought the 32GB one instead of 16GB.

Thanks

16GB solely for Apps is more than enough and it would take A LOT of apps to fill it. Use the 16GB internal for APPS and the external SD card for your music, video's, pictures, etc. You can even set the camera and video camera app to save all content to the SD card.

How many apps are you looking to install that 16GB would not be enough? On cell phones the internal memory was never anywhere near 16GB, maybe 1 - 8GB so the need to move apps to SD was needed.

It is my understanding that Honeycomb does not allow the moving of apps to an external SD card, unlike Gingerbread. I assume Ice Cream Sandwich will also not allow this. The reason for this change is they want you to be able to switch SD cards without losing your apps. A lot of Smartphone users are in for a surprise when they switch to ICS from Gingerbread!

Now that answer makes the most sense so far. I would loose my apps if I changed cards. Thanks so much, now it all makes more sense to me.

I do like the Tab a lot and will probably keep it. What do you all think of the 8.9? It has a different processor the Tegra 2. It's on sale today at Best Buy for the same price as the 7.0.

Thanks for all the responses.

Count another disappointed customer on the account of not being able to transfer apps to SD card. I understand the possibility of "losing" your apps if you switch cards, but that's micro-managing. For the love of Zeus: Allow me to transfer apps. It's my phone and apps, I paid for them.
I do like my tablet tons but the apps2SD option I MISS!

I know exactly what you are saying. Maybe with Ice Cream Sandwich it will change but I doubt it.

Are you keeping your tab or returning it? I wish we had a release date for the 7.7 tab. I am interested in that one but it could be a long time.

Have a great day

If you root the device, you should have no problem moving apps to the SD card. The 7.7 inch tab will have the same limitations, unless ice cream sandwich allows this. I think the super amoled screen will be very nice, but 7.7 inches will likely move the Tab out of the pocketable range.

I have no intention to root my Galaxy tab. The reasons I like the Android over iPhone OS is because I have more options and flexibilities without tinkering further with it. To me it's a no-brainer to allow customer to move apps as they wish. If my HTC Sensation phone can do it, my tab should be able to do that as well.
