I really like the xoom compared to all tablets, but I hear xoom 2 is coming out soon and thinking I should wait.

What would you guys do? I dont need a tablet right away.

If you can wait around 4 months, you should wait for the Xoom 2. If not, I would actually suugest you get the Transformer with he dock. I love my Xoom, but the additional battery life might be enough for some, along with the full USB and other things Asus added that you won't get with a GED.

Buy the zoom family edition. Cheaper,Thinner, better screen. It's only 16 gig but that's what the microSD card is slot is for.

I'm in the same boat. I think I'm going to wait it out a little longer. The Xoom 2 is supposedly coming in a 10" version and a 8.2" version. Also has a 1.2GHz dual core processor which is faster then the first Xoom and is also thinner at 9mm thick compared to the 12mm on the first Xoom.

The only benefit right now is that you can find the original Xoom for around $375-400. When it first came out it was priced I think at $700-800. So who knows what they're going to charge for the Xoom 2.

How much thinner is the family edition?

Edit: Nevermind I found it... 0.5" and 1.4 pounds.

Cyber, have you seen the family edition? I played with both at bestbuy yesterday. The zoom is much thicker at the top than the family edition.

Did they ever get the SD card slot working on the Xoom yet? I'm considering replacing an old laptop with a Xoom but am on the fence, as some new laptops are in the same price range. Also, has anyone heard if the original Xoom will get the ICS upgrade?

Personally, I like the Xoom and since it is quite a bit cheaper now I would recommend it. The Xoom 2 doesn't seem to be that much of a leap from the Xoom. You also don't have to worry about Moto Bloatware with the original Xoom. Everything is working with the Xoom now as well, 4G, SD card, etc. If you plan on getting a Verizon Xoom though, I would make sure that it already has the 4G upgrade.

It had been rumored that the Tegra 3 quad-core "Kal-El" would be ready for market soon, thus I had wondered if the Xoom 2 would be based on that CPU.

Now it seems better info indicates that we won't see any Tegra 3 devices until at least Feb 2012.

I'm sure that the 1.2 GHz processors give the Xoom 2 a bit of a performance advantage over the originals, and their lighter weight should make them more appealing (at least for those for whom weight was an issue) .

On the down-side, it looks like they only go up to 16 Gbyte internal memory. I can understand the logic of bring a base model in at a lower price, but they seem to be neglecting those of us who would prefer to have more memory despite the additional cost.

The Xoom 2 should be a good choice for those looking to get into tablet, but for those of us who want a real, significant upgrade, it looks like we'll be waiting for the Xoom 3.

Xoom 2 should be nothing less than a quad core tablet. If it is less than don't waste your time. I love my original xoom but all my future tablet purchases go to Asus. That 4g radio is nothing but trouble. I haven't sent mine in and wont be either.

Transformer Prime is looking to be extremely amazing!

Xoom+Root = Perfect Match

SD card slot works on my xoom. I've had my xoom for 3 weeks now and love it.

Yes... Xoom is scheduled to receive ICS and will most likely be the first tablet that receives the upgrade.

There isn't anything there that impresses me. If I were buying one today, and the XOOM 1 was $20 cheaper, I'd buy it.

I love my 4G XOOM. Plus, it sounds like this new XOOM isn't a Google experience device and has a bunch of applications loaded as well as a Motorola "skin". No thanks.

The new Transformer Prime has the Tegra 3 and I believe is coming this month. And for the OP, govwith the Transformer. Great hardware, quick updates, and cheaper price. Best Android tablet on the market hands down.

Middle name "Optimus"?

Well, props to ASUS for beating all others to market with Kal-El. And, by quite a long time at that.

I wonder why Moto didn't go with the Tegra 3? Seems like they been making a lot of missteps of late.

Will there be a G4/LTE version, or still just WiFi? That's a big consideration for my needs. I suppose I could carry around an LTE hotspot box, but I'd rather not have to.

Maybe Samsung will have Tegra 3 LTE Tabs out soon. if Moto is going to stick with dual-core, I don't see how the Xoom 2 can compete effectively. Especially topping out at just 16 GB.

I don't think Moto is trying to compete with other Android tablets as much as they are going for the iPad directly. The Transformer Prime DOES have 4 cores, but it's the first of its kind and I'm sure quad core still won't deter apple fanboys...
