Hi folks. Scooped an Epic up from my cousin who hated it and traded me straight up for my Optimus. The Epic is about 2 weeks old, and so far I'm loving it. The screen is amazing.

Haven't rooted yet because I'm in the middle
of a move and am going to be without the interwebs for a few weeks.

Is there any way to root w/o a pc? Any must have apps? Any tips or tricks?

Thanks. Love the forums here.

Why the phone is now end of life. I never get an end oflife phone even in a trade. I am dumping this faster then obamas reelection chances. Sarah palin baby... drill baby drill...

You can root using gingerbreak, search it im google. And for apps, angry bird's (;

I just recently upgraded from nextel(i880) to the Epic, man this thing is a beast. Now that I'm running gingerbread, I average 1100 for benchmark tests(even with 8 plus pages of apps, not sure exacty what that means but I'm guessing that's pretty good for non rooted phone. Not having any real issues with the new OS, minor quirks but still like it better then froyo.

Welcome to the Samsung Epic 4g section! I think you scored well doing a trade for the Epic 4g. Some others may not agree but to each their own. The Samsung Galaxy S Epic 4g is a wonderful device and is without its few downfalls like any device (none are perfect).

Anyways we have a lot here to offer and the thread you should take a look at and give it a good read. It will allow you to root your device minus a computer.

Hope this helps and we hope to see more of you around these parts.

Thanks Paul. So far I'm digging it. I was a webOS user, but when my Pre died, I grabbed the Optimus S to get my feet wet w/ Android. After getting used to it, I was hooked. So when my cousin complained her phone was too big for her, we swapped.

Thanks for the link!
