New v20 first impressions 2 days from N7 and Iphone 6s

We'll I'm just using a Sony NW-ZX100 with Sony MDR-1As. Playing the same FLAC files with the same headset, the main difference is that there appears to be more separation in instruments and a little more bass. I just find the Sony DAC to be a tad more enjoyable but the v20 works on subways, moments where you do not have your audiophile setup handy..

What other files beside flac will work well with DAC?

LOVE the Sony MDR-1A's!! I have the MDR-1ABT's.....LOVE the sound over BT!! Just need a Sony player to take advantage of LDAC if I ever go FLAC! ;)

Bluetooth of course does not really leverage the DACs that much. The audio driver is the headphones for BT. A lot of folks do not set this up correctly, so have sound modifications set on the phones and also by default the headphones doing some modifications on their own. Same thing with cars.

I thought Bluetooth didn't leverage the DACS at all...not even a little bit. I thought Bluetooth audio devices had to, by definition, utilize their own DACs. Am I mistaken?

You're right. I think the other poster was thinking more about sound equalization. Like my old M8 had a Boom Sound option that worked well with basic headphones, but I disabled it when connected to my car stereo with its own set of audio controls.

You're right about the DAC not being taken advantage for BT but what is this audio driver all about? Are you referring about aptX codec?? If so, I wonder (really hope!!) that the V20 comes with the latest aptX version!

This.

I hope so too. I use the LG Tone Platinum. I would assume a LG phone would maximize the capabilities of LG headphones.

I'll have to check. I have some older LG Bluetooth earbuds (HBS760's) and LG does some other special things because they're both LG products, like tell you the battery level in the status bar. I know I used to have a phone that would tell me when the aptx was connected, but I don't think theive seen that happen on themy V20 yet. Is there an app or something I can download to check if aptx is working?

Usually, if both devices (player and headset/speaker/etc.) support it, its automatically activated from what I've read. The devices choose the best available connection. Would be nice to have some type of sign/signal though if its 'active'.

If the Tone Platinum is Bluetooth then you won't have any audio benefit from the V20's Sabre quad DAC. If your Tones are Bluetooth, they're handling all the digital audio conversion. However, it should sound just as good as from any other phone. For you to hear how good (or not) the V20's audio is you'll need to plug on headphones with a 3.5" plug (or an adapter for 1/4").

I'm using the "HOME" screen, the one without the app drawer. I have three screens, one for my calendar widget, one with my most used apps/widgets and one for everything else. I can't make my middle screen, where I have my most used apps be the main home screen, when I click the circle on the navigation bar, it takes me to the calendar widget screen. How can I make my middle screen by the home screen?

Points to consider:

1. Apparently LTE signal reception is great on the V20. That is an issue that hurt the Note 7. Note 4 has 10 dBm better signal in mid to weak signal areas (huge). If the V20 has great reception, that will help battery life in non strong signal areas.

2. Make sure you take a spare battery with you if using the DACs to push high impedance headphones. Physics wins out and the battery is the loser. Takes lots of relative power to push wired headphones not intended for portability.

3. Judging any device during the first day for smoothness can be misleading. Best to hold judgement a few days until device set-up has settled. Ditto for battery life.

4. In regards to the navigation bar (I agree it is annoying wasting 15% of display space) LG has the option to hide the bar in apps via a display setting option. You can flag the apps you want the bar hidden, but does it work for all apps, or still gives the black bar minus the nav buttons? That would defeat the point. All apps can fill the display, since Samsung devices do it with capacitive buttons. Should be no difference if hiding the buttons.

5. Best to get a case to reduce chances of water frying the device. The display would be the first thing to short out if water gets in the case.

6. BB has in store $200 credit (no contract required) for any device as long as not cracked and can power up. My G1 will be sacrificed for a noble cause. I go to BB a lot, so will net the device down to about $512, plus the mail in free buds.
I tried an OG Droid for the $200 off. No dice. Apparently not really ANY device. It must show a value on a website they use.

Sadly, Bluetooth is still subpar. Watching something, there is a significant delay in the sound day vs when someone is speaking, just like with the V10. Note 7 didn't have this problem.

No issue on Note 4 either.

If you long press on an empty part of any screen, it should be able to drag and drop the screens in any order needed.
