New Verizon Data Plans Suck

Quick question, does it matter what data plan you have? For example, I have a Blackberry Storm (horrible phone). My bill says "blackberry data plan". If I switch over to Android, does that mean that I would have to switch data plans before 7/7, or are they all under one category (4G included)?

ALL data plans are going to be the same so it wont be a problem.

Hey guys this has been very helpful in my decisions. I have some questions about the best way to do this as I really want to get the bionic.

Right now I have no wireless plan with Verizon.

I was wondering if I could buy a used 3g smartphone and then activate that phone onto a plan with no contract. Then when the Droid Bionic comes out I would buy that with the cheaper upgrade (non retail) pricing and renew my plan with a 2 year agreement and live happily ever after. Is this something that I could do?

That should be fine. Does not matter weather you are under contract or not,

Has Verizon announced this officially yet? I've went to two different stores and each has told me that unlimited BB data plans will not be treated as the same thing as all the other unlimited smartphone data and email plans.I understand they might just be pushing to make the sale but there is a lot at stake here.

NONE of this has been announced officially yet. But if you read the leaked documents there is no mention of varying platforms, and Mortel (VZW tech support supervisor) told me in a PM those exact words when I contacted him, that all data plans will be the same.

Mortiel said:
After July 7th, all Verizon cell phone data plans will be identical. This will be regardless of function or manufacturer.

That's as official as it is gonna get until it is officially announced.

The rep probably didn't know himself (most store reps haven't been given details yet) and didn't want to give you info that he wasn't completely sure of and erred on the side of caution.

If my contract is up and I'm on month to month now, should I use my upgrade now to lock the rate in or will it matter since I'm already a customer?

Sent from my Droid Incredible on Verizon Wireless.

No need. If you can leave your data plan on there then you should be fine.

After reading the thing about getting out of your contract with Verizon because of the change in regulatory fee, could we use that to our advantage.

Could I do this:

1. Buy a subsidized 4G phone before July 1st so that my contract has the old regulatory fee.
2. I have 60 days from July 1st to cancel my contract without an ETF.
3. I end my two year contract but keep my service with Verizon.
4. Then I can by a Droid Bionic with subsidized pricing whenever it comes out and renew my 2 year contract.

I see one problem with this, will i be allowed to keep the original phone or how would that work?

No you can't do that. If you encourage contract you also must end your service. If you try to come back they will see what you did and not take you back or require a deposit or some other penalty. Theywould consider this fraun.
