New VOIP option for GV - single app solution: GrooVe IP

That sounds cool. I just wish there was a way to keep 3G data on along side wifi like on my blackberry. Then I could make groove ip use only 3G all the time while I allow my other apps to use wifi when available. That would be awesome but alas I have yet to have found a way to do that.

There is. It is called Automate It. I am using it to force wifi for Netflix or streaming music. You can do it the other way with 3G if you want. It has a free version. Paid version is $1.50 and allows for composite(multiple) triggers for a single action. I use it to automate everything from 3G to sound level to brightness. Works very well for changing settings that you know you want changed at certain times or during certain programs.

That sounds interesting. I may give that a try and see how it works out. So with this would I still need the unsigned phone.apk to enable both wifi and 3G at the same time?

On my lag issues. It appears to be something with the 3G network. I am fine when connected to wifi. And when I use my ObiOn app to connect to my obi110 back at home it does the same lag when going over 3G. I wonder if VM is not doing this intentionally. I am looking for ways to create a VPN to tunnel the traffic through and see if that helps any.

Thanks for the update

Which version number are we up to with this? Those of us who bought from Amazon seem to get delayed updates.

This is version 1.1.7. Amazon still has 1.1.6. It's because they do their own testing before approving and posting an update. We uploaded the update to them at the same time, so hopefully it should get approved in a few days.

The new 1.1.7 app always asks me to sign in now, whereas before it would automatically log in. Is there a way to make it automatically log in when I launch the app like all the versions prior to 1.1.7? Because if not, I'm downgrading back to 1.1.6, there are exactly zero circumstances for me in which I would ever want to launch the grooveip app without logging on. That is, it is annoying to lose a feature I liked on an app I paid for.

Anytime you are signed out and open the app, the sign in screen will appear. But it still tries to sign in in the background when you launch the app, if you have a username and password configured. So if you wait a few seconds it should close the log in screen automatically and switch to the dialer.

hey snrb,

Great work for removing flurry. I read the reviews and saw that some people were getting worried over flurry. I wasn't b/c fortunately I run AOSP and can disable that permission without losing functionality. Keep up the good work.

I've been getting a lot of sign outs with this version. What is the retry rate and time out values? It is supposed to stop trying to log in after a while, correct? This morning, I turn on the phone and I am logged out. I can see the icon is red. I open groove and I have to manually press login before it connects. Is this the intended behavior when it has not been able to connect for an extended period of time, or a bug?

Are you on WiFi or phone network? And does it reconnect most of the time? There's a 50 second keep alive that we need to send to google, but that's always been there. The sign out would happen if there was a socket error trying to send that keep alive. But it should try and re-sign in.

I'm on wifi. I updated recently, and I haven't tested it much. I have noticed groove being disconnected a few times now. It may be that I happen to be looking at phone on random disconnects but that seems unlikely. Is there any way to tell how long I have been disconnected or connected for that matter? That might be a good addition if it is not already in some sort of log.

It hasn't disconnected since I posted, but I will let you know if it starts to act up again. I don't think groove is responsible for the disconnects, I just worry that groove may not be reconnecting.

Let me know whatever info you get. I'll try and duplicate here, will put all the phones on wifi and move them around far away from the router to see if I can duplicate. Just shoot me an email if you get any more info.

The notification icon should show when you disconnected. It'll say signed out <username> and the time it signed out.

I know this may sound odd but hear me out. Is there any other app out there that any of you guys know of that would allow a voice conversation to be had between two parties with androids? Not really a PTT app but more skype-ish. I could use Skype I know but I am trying to see if there are any others that would connect point to point without another server in the way. I need to test out my area's Virgin Mobile network as I think they are delaying the upload and that is causing my groove ip to have a delay.

I got this to happen once. It happened when I had a bad connection. Looking at the logs there was a socket exception. And for some reason the app did not try and reconnect after that. Looking into why it didn't try and reconnect. We'll likely post another update quickly with just that fix when we figure it out.

Your description sounds right that it was originally a router/connection issue, but then groove stopped trying to reconnect. It hasn't happened to me since this last morning but it is awesome that you found the source of the bug. Seriously, this is the best money I've ever spent on an app. Thank you!

‎1.1.8 is up on the android market
- Fix a reconnect issue
- Add a setting to disable Bluetooth in GrooVe IP
- Default Bluetooth to on if a device is sync'd

Ok, I have done more testing now. It is definately the VM network that is my lag problem. Both mine and my wife's phones do the same thing. And if we call each other with Groove IP it is HORRIBLE!!!! But again it is perfect while on wifi. We have also tested Skype and Obion connecting to our Obi110 at home with same/similar results.

So here is my question for ya'll... What is the easiest way to test a VPN setup on these phones so that I can see if it is merely the speed or if it is VM/Sprint doing some nasty QoS stuff. If I hide the traffic inside a VPN tunnel they can't mess with it as bad.
