New VOIP option for GV - single app solution: GrooVe IP

Just bought and a bit disappointed so far but perhaps it's user error.

1) can I use the stock dialer to make calls on Groove?
2) if i use the Groove dialer, how do I hang up the call?

By default when you make a call using your native dialer it will now ask whether to use GrooVe IP or your mobile network. If you choose GrooVe IP then calls will go through the app.

Not sure I understand your second question. When you're in a call you should see 5 buttons on the bottom. Hang-up and dialpad and then bluetooth, mute, and speaker.

What I mean is If. I'm on a call and hit home, I can't pull down the notification bar to see that i'm on an active call. Normally I can hangup from there if I exit a call so to speak.

I can't even return to the active call by relaunching the Groove IP dialer. Seems like I have to stay on the active can screen.

Oh and now when I dial any number it rings once then exits and comes back to the dialer as if the connection failed.

The number you're dialing is busy. There's no busy tone yet in GrooVe IP.

If you go back to the home screen and you're in a call you can get back to the in-call screen by clicking on the notification icon. Pull down the notification bar and just click on the notification for GrooVe IP.

This app has potential but is currently too buggy and the UI is a bit rough.

I just noticed that the BT enable button within the GVIP dialer app overrides (?) The system BT.

I had my BT headset on and couldn't connect until I enabled BT in the GVIP dialer. It wouldn't connect if I enabled BT from the system or even main dialer.

Ill keep an eye on development and can pass on more info if the devs are interested. Thanks and good luck!

Yea you are pretty much paying for a Beta test and it would not surprise me because of fragmentation this guy gives up development on this app and takes his money and runs.
I bought this app and uninstalled it and just upgraded to the $40 a month plan less hassle.

A new low!

One of the, if not the most responsive devs in the community, who has done everything possible to cater to every request, and you post something like that?!?
No class at all!

My thanks to the devs at GrooVeIP for all your hard work and great customer service.

Could not agree more.

I'm guessing you mean that when you dial from GrooVe IP you have to hit the BT button? The app doesn't look at your system settings. Actually doesn't remember your in-call settings across calls either. We're going to see if we can improve that. Nothing you change in the app should affect or override anything in your native dialer though.

Thanks for trying the app. Sorry about the problems you've had. We're interested in any and all feedback.

Hi, sorry you had a bad experience with the app. I don't want to pick a fight or start an argument. But, I would be interested in hearing what you thought we could have done better. We did spend over a month sending the app to different people with different devices and getting feedback. Short of releasing the app for free, I'm not sure what we could have done to get larger device exposure. We are trying to fix each and every bug that people have reported. In the world of software, nothing is ever released bug free. There's a running joke that software is never "done".

For a one time fee of $4 you get unlimited calling. I think for what you get the app is pretty reasonably priced. Most other calling apps charge a recurring monthly fee. While we may someday increase the price, it will still be just a one time fee.

Sometime it works and sometimes it don't was just a waste of money for me.
But some people do not want to hear about negative responses so I will gracefully bow out. Peace

It's not that, you aren't seeing the bigger picture of a dev taking constant requests. If you look at all the broken Apps with no dev support.. Yeaaah. I get that it feels like a beta, but with that comparison, than every new app is a beta with every update.

I just want to be clear that I wasn't putting down the debs or app at all. I respect how difficult it is to get something like this off the ground. I've done it with friends and I respect the monumental effort.

I will continue to give feedback and I wish the team all the best.

Swype has been beta for months. It is arguably the best keyboard available for Android and they don't charge a thing for it. I paid $4 for this and it does not work reliably. I would gladly paid double if it actually worked two days in a row.

Thanks for the feedback. Can you tell me what problems you're having with the app?

This app doesn't appear to work with Google Authenticator. It was working / registering fine (green icon in status bar) before installing GA, but now I cannot get it to register (red icon in status bar).

Optimus V, unrooted.

Have never tried google authenticator. We'll take a look at it.
