Newb processor question...

So, my step-dad and I ran a Quadrant benchmark simultaneously. His Droid X came back at 1.33 GHz, mine (Fascinate) was at a mere 899 MHz. If we have the same size processor, what gives?? :-\

Aside from them both being rated for 1ghz, they aren't the same. The X uses a Texas Instruments (yes, the calculator company) processor while the Fascinate has one developed by Samsung. Quadrant isn't the most reliable because of too many variables. For example, an overclocked 1.2ghz processor will give double the benchmark score over a stock 1ghz, but performance certainly isn't that drastically changed.

I think you mean the quadrant scores were 1330 and 899. Right?

If so, thats because of two things directly:
His runs Android 2.2, yours runs Android 2.1
Samsung has a file system that is comparatively slow. It's fast enough to run Android for most things with no slowdown, but it benchmarks very badly.

Does your Fascinate feel fast and fun to use? That's the real test.

Oh good catch. I didn't even notice he was referring to those numbers as speeds.

gbhil is right though, the file system is a major factor. Thus why switching to a voodoo system, your scores will go up considerably without any hardware change at all.
