Newbie Dots game question

I'm a new owner of a nexus 7 (my first android device ever), so I downloaded that game Dots, and I cant seem to 'swipe' colored dots to connect. Does this mean I have touch screen issues? I got the Nexus to play Plants Vs Zombies 2 and that game works fine , but on Dots, I cant seem to get decent game play , could it be a 'swipe issue'?
