Newbie - Exchange via POP email questions

Good Morning, All,

I picked up a HTC MyTouch 3G Slider last night. Love the phone, but struggling with the email and messaging, after coming from Blackberry.

I set up my Yahoo and Gmail email without any real issues. My work email is giving me fits. We use an Exchange/Outlook email, but I don't pay for ActiveSync. On my Blackberry, I've been able to get the email via POP. I can get email without a problem - it's sending that is causing me fits. On the Blackberry, I didn't have to set up an outgoing smtp server. I've tried a million settings, verified the correct server and port with company. But I still can't send email. No matter what I set the smtp port/security/etc to, I get the error ?Cannot connect to the mail server to verify your account information. Your sever is not responding.?

Any ideas?

why not try forwarding your work emails to your google or to your yahoo ... in google you can set a label to any incoming messages and have a work label so they are easy to find in one place ... the only problem you'll run into is if you want to reply to an email it will be with your personal email ... so for replying i would probably wait till i was at a computer but atleast if you set the messages to forward from outlook right away you'll get them as they come to your work email and you'll then be able to decide if you want to respond

I finally was able to get it to work. Apparently my work uses TLS security instead of the common SSL security.

My issue with using GMail was the fact that I couldn't respond on my phone with the work email address on the phone. Hopefully, that will cease with the Android 2.2 or 2.3.

Unfortunately, the email retreival just stopped working yesterday. Downloaded K9 Mail from the Market and all has been fine since.
