I am new to Android (Nexus 7) and have two questions please. The first is; across the top of my screens are a bunch of little wedggies (for lack of a better term) aligned from the left. What are these? I suspect they may represent running programs. If that is the case do I have to close them? If so, how? Also; I use my tablet very sparingly to check my email and then erase them all. I see how to delete the emails individually but surely there is a "select all" choice so I can delete them en-mass rather than go through 40 or 50 emails and have to delete them one at a time. Where is this option?

Thanks in advance... Bob

The weddgies are symbols of some running apps, but not of all running apps. They also indicate some messages. You can scroll them down and slide over them to dismiss them. But some like utorrent, weather etc. cannot be dismissed. They will stay there until you stop the related app from running incognito or uninstall that app, maybe. They are nonetheless, harmless.
As for, select all option, I am also waiting someone to find that it.
