Newbie here s6 lagging/slow

Most people who switch from an iPhone to android get into a habit of comparing the two. They should if they have to. But it doesn't do them any good. You've bought the phone and made the switch, now you have to deal with the good and bad things that come along with it.

Anyways, I'm not going to go into IOS vs Android war here. Although I'm an android guy. And I switched from 4 years of using IOS.

Most switchers notice a bit of lag and start trying to fix the situation. So did I the first time I switched. They start using cleaning tools etc. Now I don't know if you did the same but if you did, clean up all your cleaning tools. Just get rid of them. These cleaning apps get deep into the system and instead of boosting up performance, they slow the phone down. If not, then that's just the way the phone is. It does so many things amazingly at the cost of being a bit laggy sometimes.

Secondly, the home button issue is unusual with the S6. If you have assigned any apps to home button other than "going home" then reset it. For example many android users use it to launch certain apps. That slows down the functionality of the home button. If not, then check if there's a hardware issue with the button. If nothing works then do what the person above has stated.

I don't understand what you mean by the browser lagging.

I'm just saying, don't get hyped into this lagging issue. Yes, the S6 isn't as smooth as the iPhone or the nexus devices. It's a bit laggy and blocky in performance. Don't TRY to make your S6 work flawlessly. If you let it go you'll forget noticing such things. Of course a 2 second lag is hard to leave unnoticed and needs to get resolved. But otherwise, a little lag won't kill nobody.

Relax.

Thanks for the advice, where in settings can you change the HOME settings?

Just made the switch from Apple, about 2 months with Android and it seems to lag. Especially internet browsing
I can use it and it does its job
But little things annoy me.
Home button when clicked not as Smooth as it was out of box, takes about 2 secounds.
Samsung's internet browser lags
Tried chrome, it lags.

Is there something I can do in settings ?
I'm using the S6 edge

Please help

iPhones don't have regular lag. Sometimes, very rarely, the system hangs for a few seconds, but that's extremely rare. Androids seem to have an ever present lag in their normal use. Sometimes it seems like a disconnect from the touch screen to the UI responding, other times it's just a definite slow down. iOS and Android are written in different code and android in effect is an app running an app, an emulator of sorts. That is where all this memory management and larger memory requirements come in. iOS handles memory better and requires less and the hardware has no trouble keeping up with OS needs. My Nexus 5 (and now 6p) have little to no lag and seem butter smooth, as they are. But when I take my iphone 6 for a spin now and then it's still a better experience, it just seems to flow/animate/move the way the brain feels it should. Samsungs, despite their excellent chips and large ram numbers have to deal with TW, which is the culprit. I bought the galaxy s6 edge when it came out. Gorgeous.. but that keyboard lag was unbelievable. I'd type and sometimes the pop up animation would just stop mid sentence and stay there, as if the phone froze and then suddenly after a few seconds it would quickly completely the rest of the letters which I typed while it was frozen. The same happens with the google keyboard... it's a system wide problem. Dropped frames leading to slow or jerky animations. Makes my blood boil.

Just come across this thread as I'm considering the s6 edge plus. What's with people moaning about lag? I have the xperia z2 and it's nearly 2 years old and doesn't lag. Sure it has the odd stutter but is generally smooth. So what do Samsung do different to Sony?

I've had my S6 since launch day and I haven't noticed any lag. Very rarely I might see a delay when starting up an app, but it's so rare I wouldn't report it. But, it seems some people do have enough lag to cause frustration.

Android is powered by Linux, iPhones run under Apples IOS and Windows Phones run.. well .. Windows.. all handle Memory and its usage differently...

Linux (Android), runs everything from memory.. which means.. if your phone has 3GB of ram, then 2GB of it will be full.. this is normal.. and also its curse.. the more apps you have.. the more Android has to shuffle and move things around... thats why .. in the early days of the S3, S4 and S5.. they were painfully laggy because Sammy had everything and the kitchen sink installed and running.

If your switching from Apple.. theres a few things you need to know..

Dont install Apps you dont need and do regular cleaning on your phone to tidy up.. removing stuff you no longer want.. open the "Smart Manager App" and do a clean up..

You could also try Restarting your phone whilst its charging.. it takes les than a Minute and it clears the cache..

If samsung have an App on the S6 and it does its job, use theirs.. dont install a spare one from the store.. an example of this would be a NotePad app.. I believe SS
have about 5 or 6 Note taking apps you can use.. (Story Album, SNote, Note Pad)

Disable Samsungs own "Briefing", causes MASSIVE laggg in every area (Swipe right of the home screen) and install proper Flipboard or use another RSS reader.. Feedly, Gogle Newstand.. etc..

Unless you must have your emails as they arrive, I would Disbale "Sync", until you need it.
Switch to Firefox for Android browser

Unless you are web chrome developer or Beta test Chrome based apps then , Disable "Android System WebView"

Hope that helps..

Not quite.
While Android does indeed run on top of Linux, iOS runs on top of FreeBSD in exactly the same way.

Thanks for the heads up friend :).. I must admit I actually didnt know that.. I always thought that the iPhone ran on mobile version of what Apple use on their Macs.. Snow Leopard, Lion... etc, similar to Microsoft running Windows 8 Mobile.. but then again.. my experience of iPhones is limited to 3 months with the 6, which being tied into iTunes and Apple.. became annoying in the end.. :)

No probs.

Well OS X also sat on top of FreeBSD, and iOS is more or less an extension for mobile devices despite them not being compatible.

If I remember correctly they chose FreeBSD over Linux on account of the licencing
