Okay, I just moved from Blackberry to the EVO 4G and I am trying to figure out, what is the benefit of rooting your phone? With BlackBerry you could use other carriers' OSes, but I am totally new to Android and I found out that they will not be releasing very many updates for Sprint because it is EoL.

There are great advantages to rooting. You can run different roms, make your phone less of a battery hog, make it run faster, delete unnecessary files, and basically make your phone even more of your own, you get free wifi tethering instead of having to pay $30 to sprint to get it, there are many apps in the market after you get superuser that can give you wifi tethering. you can get your phone to run on sense 3.0 instead of the stock version you can go down to the bare minimum of android and have a lot of memory you can use in the phone. the list can go on and on. ;)

Summed up pretty good.
