Next Update for Nexus 7...your thoughts?

Google, please FIX the unresponsive touchscreen issue. I am on my second N7 and it has the same problem as the first.

I'm no techie, though I know some things about Android. What I don't know, is the possibilities Google can bring to our tablets soon. Can someone please explain to me how firmware (system) updates work?

Weird. I have had my Nexus 7 for over a month, now, use it every day, and have experienced no problems at all. No raised screen, no unresponsive touch screen, no slow Chrome. Nothing wrong at all.

Well, the last update of the Facebook app locks up from time to time, but that's hardly the N7's fault.

This has been the most bug-free computing device I've ever owned.

I totally agree with you on this one.

I can't really find anything wrong software wise. What I would like to see updated is Chrome, it sucks.

Yep, this is my only issue... everything else is flawless.
Well, i hate the current Swype Beta, but it's not google.

Edit: By the way, i have 2 of these. Both flawless. 16gb for myself and 8gb for my daughter

I wish I was bug free. I love the Nexus 7 when it works but I'm on my third device as of yesterday. The new one is flawless so far but it's only been up for about 12 hours. First one got a dead pixel line down the center the third day and the second had the oddest operating system glitch I've ever seen. It rebooted while I was on youtube two weeks into ownership and then started doing it all the time. When it did it was as if the system was frozen in time. Everything reset back to that original reboot so all the apps needed to be updated again each time and I couldn't reset the device back to factory. I also couldn't use the bootloader. It would reboot when I tried that. Anyway it had to go back so I'll try one more time. I hope this one is a gem.

Oh, youtube has a well known issue streaming HD videos that leads to often buffering. I know some have found a work around tinkering with their router settings but that shouldn't be necessary considering every other device works perfectly. I'm not going to mess with mine and use tubemate to download the videos I want to watch offline to avoid the buffering. I expect they can tweak the app to make it behave better with users routers.

Oh, speed up Chrome and add Ad-blocking please?!?

Google makes money off selling those ads in the first place and most of Google's revenue comes from selling mobile adds for Android. Why would they shoot themselves in the foot?

I don't have one yet, but I plan to get one in the future. The screen resolution sounds so wonderful.
I probably would like to have GPS on it, and a mini-SD card slot. And easy access to the battery so that it can easily be replaced with a charged one for hiking in the middle of the wilderness and read my fifty megatons of ebooks uninterrupted.

Then look at this...;)

Amazon.com: Anker? Astro3 10000mAh Dual 2A USB Output External Battery Backup for all iPhone, iPod, iPad; Most Android Phones: Samsung Galaxy S3 / HTC One X One S Sensation EVO / Motorola Droid / LG Optimus / Nokia N9 Lumia; Cameras: GoPro - [Charge

I have had mine for 2 days. At first I had a screen issue but it was some sort of glitch cause its gone. Since then I cannot believe how amazingly smooth this thing is. Im not even sure what they could improve. I may actually be a little weary of an update when nothing is wrong.

Nice battery, and quite light too.

I just noticed the CPU has GPS on Nexus 7 too?

Too bad the Chinese have not come up with a tiny mini-USB-mini-SDcard adapter yet. Just a question of time I guess.

There is one major software issue, which only I seem to bring up (on these boards at least) and that's the homescreen being glitchy after running the N7 for around 100 hours straight. Pretty much anything that is a widget is completely useless to me. They don't update and many (but not all) don't work.

For example, the built-in song finder on Jelly Bean no longer works. When I want to turn on WIFI using the widget, it doesn't light up, it remains off, even though WIFI is working. Plume Twitter widget doesn't update either.

However sometimes (like once every two days) the homescreen will 'refresh' itself (I don't know what makes it refresh itself), but it remains glitchy once again after that. I'm sure that if I just reboot my N7 that the homescreen glitches will be fixed, but I don't wanna turn it off! I'm at 811 hours running straight so far, why quit now?

Besides, I don't know how or why uptime would be related to homescreen glitches. Anyway, Google needs to fix that and we're golden, until it's time to serve us some Key Lime Pie. :D

Experience the something around 264 hours of up time. Quick reboot and all is well. I don't mind rebooting that seldomly if it keeps things running fast and clean.

Fix the unresponsive touchscreen (which I remain convinced is poor garbage cleanup of the flash memory). Landscape homescreen (I expect this'll be fixed with the next update, anyway: it's a prerequisite for the dock to be useful).

Maybe Google is waiting to see if Apple will come after them like they did Samsung.

Interestingly, from what I have read and understand, Samsung's problem was with their custom UI and form factor. Pure Jellybean is not only void from potential litigation by Apple, but actually might inspire allegations of copying by Apple from Android.

I am not entirely clear on the details regarding Motorola's recent complaint against Apple?though I expect it is not on the same grounds (UI, trade dress, form factor) as Apple's suit against Samsung and more on the level of serious technology thievery. Though US patents need to be completely reconsidered as an entity, however they are applied?from pharmaceuticals to phone UI.

That said, I sincerely hope Google doesn't act upon these things like Apple has. I doubt they will (they seem to have let Notifications slide, pun intended), especially after recent comments from the company desiring an atmosphere of collective innovation.

I'd like a restart option. Right now the choices are just Power off, Airplane Mode and Silent Mode. Basically I'm really happy with it and it's working fine after 2 weeks.
