Nexus 10 (2012) - still the smoothest 10" tablet out there?

Hi
I was thinking of getting a used tablet and principally a Nexus 10 (2012 model).
I looked at a few other tablets today in a few stores, firstly the Sony Xperia Z, but whilst I liked the idea of the water resistance, this seemed to have occasional micro lags despite its quad core, and the surface of the tablet seemed to be plastic coated and resistant to fingers in a bad way. Also I saw the battery draining in the shop even though it was charging..
I also tried the Samsung Note 8 which I liked but the screen is too small and I am not sure if the s-pen is that productive. Finally the Nexus 7 (2013 model) is very smooth and the screen is excellent - but again, the size...
How does the Nexus 10 (2012) compare? It is only available online in my city. I would principally use the tablet on the sofa for browsing and apps like flickr, but no demanding 3D gaming. But I would like to have a completely smooth experience for these simple functions - like with an ipad - I know that is not a lot to ask ;-)
Any advice welcome!

Hello.

The N7 (2012) edition is just a tad fatter in thickness than the (2013). Otherwise I don't think the differences elsewhere (if any) are really that noticeable.

Its still a top performer, especially running Android 4.3. I love my N7 (2012) version, I use it daily instead of constantly relying on my laptop.

Thanks for the feedback.. it is interesting that there are so few differences with N7s.

Anyone able to comment on the N10 (2012) or suggest a 10" tablet with a "smoother" experience?

The Nexus 10 is pretty smooth. I have play lot of high end games with no hiccup.
N10 had heating issue on Android 4.2.2 when playing high end games but after 4.3(released 3 months ago) that issue has been fixed.

if youwant a tablet buy the N10 2012 or N7 2013. just dont buy N7 2012, its a good tablet but its not worth the money.

Then by all means go with the Nexus 10. But if you can wait a little longer, there might be a new Nexus 10 for the holidays. Depends on how soon you want it. But if you are thinking used, by all means get the Nexus 10 now.

? There are lots of differences between an N7 and an N10. When you compare the brand NEW N7 model just released to the year old N10, there are fewer differences than when you compare to the N7. But either way, there are significant differences.

Nah there is better tablets now. there is a bunch of tegra 4 tablets now and even Samsung released their Galaxy Note 10.1 2013 edition with Snapdragon 800, 3gb of ram, and quickcharge 2.0

For looking at high resolution images, the Nexus 10 is fine.

On the other hand, 6 days a week I am looking at 10 megabyte .pdf Acrobat Reader files. These files are the daily edition of "Le Monde", the French newspaper. If I am looking at it so that one page is one full screen, flipping between pages goes very fast, no lag.

But if I zoom in, and start shifting the page around, left / right, up / down ... then there is lag, a bit.

But it's not too bad at all. No problem. But maybe the 2013 version will be a bit better.

And I would add that on my 2 and 1/2 year old Apple iPad 2, Acrobat Reader is more smooth performing, looking at these same "Le Monde" files. I'm 100% sure.

But the text is less clear. And it's for the same reason: there are less pixels.

It takes a lot of CPU / GPU to push around all those pixels.

I still hear rumors that the Nexus 10 v.2 (or 2014 or next gen or whatever) is going to be released next week along with the Nexus 5. That's the way it was done last year, too. So unless money is a real issue and you can find the current Nexus 10 for cheap, I'd definitely wait.

You never want to buy a gadget that's an year old. That's my 2 cents

At this point i would say the new Note 10.1 is the way to go. The new nexus 10 would be good if you can wait a bit and it really does happen.

The other option is if the nexus 10 is price cut, it is still good. I really don't feel like i need more then the n10 right now.

Just keep in mind the biggest pro and con to the nexus devices are they get the latest android version right after release. So sometimes you are a beta tester. Personally I like Google experience devices (GED) for the tablet. I haven't been sold on it for phones though.
