I managed to screw up hundreds of contacts on my nexus 10 but my gmail account is OK. How do I delete all of my contacts at once on the tablet so I can resync and fix them all at once?? thanks

There is no way to delete all of your contacts on the phone at one time. The very first thing you should do is export your gamil contacts to Google CSV format. Make sure that the file is good. You might actually want to multiple copies in different format just to be ultra sure. Once you have the contact copies then delete all contacts on web then sync with phone then import file to web gmail then sync phone.

wouldn't going into application settings and clearing contact storage help? (note I would make a backup via gmail just in case)

You might very well have a good idea, but as you said a backup is still definitely required. If the contacts are deleted on the phone I think that when the sync occurs all contacts will be deleted from the web account. The app that syncs contacts is does not have any way of doing a sync only from web to phone so it is going to sync from web since it was deleted from phone.

I have done it in the past without problems but I don't want to guarantee that it will work that way for everyone.

For good measure, just disable Contact sync prior to clearing data from the Contact apps...then when you've verified it's clear of names, re-enable sync and let it do it's thing.

(But yes, definitely make a backup of your Google contacts online first).
