Nexus 4 Data Connection Issues

I got my nexus 4 one month ago. At first I loved it, but soon I started noticing issues with data connection:

1) Phone occasionally drops data connection (never dropped call, but I don't talk much so I am not sure). The way I see that connection is gone is because some apps report when connection is absent. Facebook is one of those. Very often I open Facebook app and I see message that there is no connection. But if I try to refresh feed, phone regains connection and everything gets loaded. Browsing internet is fast once it gets going. Connection indicator is constantly switching between 3G, H and sometime nothing (empty triangle - no connection). But even if indicator shows no connection, if I request some web page, most of the time, it will change into 3G or H.

2) I use one app to play chess, and when I am submitting my move to the server if I am on H or 3G it might take a minute or so for request to go through. If I am on WiFi there is no waiting time at all. Another thing I noticed (to me this one is the most telling), if I start app "Speed Test" and "Begin Test" while my chess app is trying to submit my move, every time (no mistake), move is submited right after "Speed Test" start running tests. It seems that Speed Test application is waking up the phone

3) Wireless is sort of erratic. At my home sometime it works, sometime doesn't. Sometime, when it works it shows no bars (router is 5 feet away), but it works. And sometime, when it works, it is very slow. In all other times, N4 simply doesn't even see the router.

Does anybody have any idea what to do here? Could it be bad sim card? Got new one when I got the phone.

Which provider are you using? Maybe the apn settings are a little off. I was using Straight Talk and had issues with that. Now with Airvoice and so far so good
