NEXUS 4 - RED LED LIGHT pops up from time to time - Phone seems to operate normally.

I have two nexus 4 that I bought in mid June. A white and black version. I noticed after the first week I started getting a solid Red LED light randomly throughout the day on the black version. At first I thought my battery might be low but I've been getting the RED LED light even with 75% battery life. When I unlock my phone with a swipe the RED LED disapears and the phone works normally. The google play customer service people told me to do a hard factory reset. I thought that would fix it but then the next day the same thing happens....the red led pops back up. The phone has not froze or crashed on me but the RED LED light makes me worry that this phone is defective. Is it an application that I downloaded that is causing the RED LED or is it a faulty batttery sensor? I thought my white nexus 4 was going to be ok...but today the RED LED pop up on that phone too. Has anyone seen the RED LED without the phone crashing? Both phones work fine except having the RED LED pop up from time to time.

If it's a tiny red LED at the bottom - it could be a notification light. Mine turns red when there's urgent news from CNN. You can set it to light off based on certain apps. Did you check your drop down menu to see if there were notifications pending?

Yes, it's the tiny red LED at the bottom. Interesting about the CNN application. I did have the CNN app loaded to my nexus 4. It would be nice if the user manual would have an explanation regarding the LED. Isn't the "RED" LED reserved only for battery issues? I know Facebook notifications are blue.

No. Like gun said, CNN can trigger it. Sometimes CNN sends a half-dozen alerts each day.

My SMS app sets the red LED for a smoking hot female friend, the yellow LED for a homely female friend, and the magenta LED for a gay male friend.

As you can see, the user manual can explain all that.

Yep it must be an app that you are using on both the devices. Sometimes it even happens when you have two different led colours set for different notifications. When you get a few notifications from different apps, instead of the led blinking sequentially in the different colours you just get a random colour
